Warnock bids Townsend Good Riddance
Warnock bids Townsend Good Riddance

Andros Townsend has decided to end his loan spell at Elland Road to return to his parent club Tottenham Hotspur, amid rumours that he’s on his way to Birmingham City.

Townsend joined Leeds on New Year's Day and has made seven appearances for the club, but after an impressive performance against Burnley in his first game he tailed off a bit and had become a more peripheral figure in recent weeks, relying on substitute appearances to get a game.

However, he was back in the starting line-up on Saturday and Warnock told the official site that he was disappointed to lose the player. But the new boss continued I don't want people who don't want to be here so good riddance I say if it's what he wants to do. His agent told me he didn't like here, he wasn't happy and he hadn't settled.”

In the latter days of Grayson’s reign there were rumours that all was not well in the Leeds dressing room, but I would have thought that Townsend would have hung on to see how he got on under the new boss. Could it be that he thought that Wanock’s training regime was a bit too much like hard work? Or is it just that his head has been turned by the possibility of a mover to Birmingham?

Warnock has also lost Fabian Delph this week, albeit in different circumstances, as it’s been confirmed that the midfield player will be out for the season due to the injury he picked up at Coventry. Whilst it’s disappointing that we won’t have either of these players available for the run it, as both could have played a significant role in the team, they will at least make a bit of a saving on the old wage bill and allow Warnock to bring in a couple of the new players that he wants.
