After West Ham United won against Leicester City 2-1 at the King Power Stadium, Saints now have to endure a final day nail biter.

It has to be said though if any team in the Championship facing a must win game at home could choose the side that they would prefer to face, it would be Coventry City, with respect to the Sky Blues who are just about to finish their worst season since being promoted to the old second division in 1963/64, they not only have been relegated, but have the worst away record in the division, winning only 1 game, drawing 6 and being defeated on 15 occasions, in those games they have scored only 13 times and conceded 35, thats the fewest goals netted by a long chalk and not far off the most conceded.

In contrast West Ham face Hull City at Upton Park, the Tigers are a tight side on their travels, winning 7, drawing 7 and losing only 8 times, yes Hull have only scored 18 on the road, but they have only let in 20, so it will be a hard task for the Hammers, who in fairness arent great on their own turf of late.

So the job for Saints is clear, we couldn't play a worse side than Coventry(again with respect to them) we need to get the job done quickly, score the goals that make the result beyond doubt early in the game and put them to the sword so that nerves dont come into it.

If we draw, West Ham have to win by three goals and score three more goals than us to go up. I think.

This is now one scary game. Reminds me of the home game with Bristol at the end of 2011, win/draw and we went the whole year unbeaten at home. Nerves got to the players and we lost to a rotton bristol side.

And if its on tv....

stmichael - nor am I. Have a horrible feeling. Nigel is going to need all his skills as a manager to pull this one out of the bag. why oh why did we put ourselves in this position?

Your analysis suggesting how easy it should be makes me extremely nervous. All we had to do at Huddersfield was get the job done. Our lads will be nervous as hell while Coventry will enjoy a relaxed afternoon out wanting to feel that they have had some impact on the league despuite their miserable season.

Only thing that will save us is if I put money on Coventry to win. Will get on to that in the morning.

Lets not over complicate this game. We just need to score 1 more goal than Coventry, not worry what west ham, hull, cardiff or southend are doing. Just concentrate on out scoring Coventry and we will be ok.
Lets get behind the lads from the start, no bitching or moaning if passes go astray. If we start to show we are worried they will pick it up and won't play their relaxed football. Remember, we have the best strike force in the league. Stick with them and they will do their jobs.

saintandy11 - you speak alot of sense but you cannot help the slight nervousness and sceptcism born out of recent performances probably. Nevertheless, you are right and we do need to get behind them and for heaven sake all sing Southampton related songs (I see no point in anti-pompey songs). Do not get agitated when things go a little astray and heaven sake, should we concede a goal get behind them even more.

Spot on SaintAndy11. For God's sake we are playing on paper the worst away team in the league. If we can't win games likes this then we shouldn't be playing in the EPL. It really is that simple. Forget the TV curse, a single magpie, new boots on the table and any other voodoo hoodoo nonsense. This isn't Haiti!! Get behind the team from the start and throughout the game. If we play like we did against Crystal Palace, Reading and Peterborough we'll be fine. West Ham can beat Hull by a cricket score, but it won't matter if we concentrate on finishing off our own objective. Keep calm and get behind the boys one last time.
