Swans Release Bari Morgan and Alex Davies

The timing of this could not be worse for the two players in question who have both been on a week-to-week contract since the end of last season. Neither managed to make a real impact on the first team but the decision to release them will come as a surprise even though they have been out of contract.
Or does it? Is it pure co-incidence that the proposed deal to take Stuart Roberts to Rotherham collapsed last weekend and then, just two days later, we hear that two of the youngsters have been released? I would imagine not. It is no secret that the club is not on the most solid of states financially and the new investors that Mike Lewis is so desperately seeking are not overly quick in forthcoming at the moment.
It seems that these two have been released to balance the books as it would have made more sense that were they going to be released they would have been along with the other players during the summer. It is unlikely that they will find league clubs before the start of the season and, in effect they have been thrown on the football scrapheap.
If that isn't bad enough, we are told that Bari Morgan was promised a contract by John Hollins once he regained his fitness - now we've heard that one before and with the release of Davies we only have Jason Jones as cover for Roger in goal.
Mike Lewis was banking on the money from Stuart's sale and now it is not happening. He realises that he has a potential goldmine in Stuart and naturally wants to keep him. I want him to stay as well but my reasons are purely football. However, it seems that the club cannot keep Stu and some of the others. How many more trialists will we sign now. How many would we have signed if Rotherham had paid the money that Liability wants.
Maybe the football club is in a worse state than most people would like us to believe. I am not pretending that either player was a new Schmeichel or Beckham but to treat two young players like this is dreadful.
Whatever happens, I wish Alex and Bari all the best for their futures and hope that one day they come back and prove to Mr Lewis and Mr Hollins that they did have what it takes.
For what it's worth, this was John Hollins statement on the official web-site " Telling players that you are not able to offer them a contract is definitely the hardest part of a manager's job. In the case of these two young men, it is even more difficult, as due to their particular circumstances, we are having to do it now, but we have sat down and talked it through with them. " We wish them both all the best for the future, and will do everything we can for them as a club, to help them find a new club."
