You're Right John - We Do Need To Score Goals

John says "I was not happy with the result because I know we can do better. "I will be working hard with the boys to make sure we finish off our good moves in the future."
OK, Saturday was John's 140th league match in charge of Swansea City (excluding two play-off matches) and this is his overall league record

157 goals in 140 league games, hardly surprising then that we are drawing so many blanks at the moment. It's been the same story for most of those 140 games. Let's break those stats down a little further

The average score in a league game under John Hollins is Swansea 1.12 The Opposition 1.08. It doesn't exactly bode for high scoring games week in week out does it?
Steve Watkin is the leading scorer in the league under John Hollins with 32 league goals (just over 20%) whilst 4 of the next five on the list (Giovanni Savarese, Julian Alsop, Jason Price and Walter Boyd) are no longer at the club. Again, it hardly bodes for consistent goalscoring. A look at the table below shows who has scored (and in how many appearances giving their games per goal ratio as well)

Players not in Bold text are no longer at the club
If you take those still at the club and put a minimum of five goals in there to give some idea then this clearly shows that Steve Watkin is (frighteningly) the most prolific goalscorer at the club with a goal every 3.66 games and the next nearest is Stuart Roberts at one every nine games.
Taking Roger Freestone out of the equation, Saturday's starting line-up has 575 league starts between them under Hollins with a further 108 substitute appearances. The same 10 players have scored 62 league goals under Hollins between them. 1 Goal every 11 appearances. Add the two substitute appearances and that changes to 621 starts & 129 subs with 69 goals.
And John Hollins is surprised that we don't score many goals? The stats don't lie.
One final thought from me on this particular subject. Of all the players who have scored a league goal under John Hollins, we can split them into two categories - those that are at the club and those that are not.

In short, the goalscorers appear to have gone. This statistic looks worse if you take Steve Watkin out as the 'prolific man'

Better hope that he doesn't get injured on this basis. Draw your own conclusions from the stats but I found them quite interesting.
