Wales find themselves a further nine places up the latest FIFA World Rankings issued today, meaning that they have now risen an impressive 48 places during 2002. |
Currently topping their group in the European Championship Qualifiers, Wales have risen from 100th in the World at the end of last year to now stand 52nd following a whole year unbeaten in international football. |
The latest rankings also show them as second of the four home nations, having overtaken Scotland who are 58th at present. The current ranking is the highest for Mark Hughes' team since 1995, and an incredible achievement for a side that slipped outside the World's top 110 in 2000. The news comes hot on the heels after the game with Azerbaijan in March was sold out in hours yesterday meaning another capacity crowd for the game. |
