What I would like

I like the noises that are coming out of the club at the moment and I want some action to match the words. The clubs overriding priority should be to get the Morfa development underway. This represents our ambition for years to come and hopefully will set Swansea on the way to being a much bigger club competing in the higher divisions. Whilst the Morfa development should be our main concern, we have also got to look to next season and hopefully a more sucessful campaign. I understand contracts have already been offered to a number of players and I am glad to see this. If we have any ambition at all we should go all out to sign the likes of Martinez, Britton, Thomas, etc. As a supporter I would rather see a player such as Durkan sacrificed so we can ensure that the wages demanded by these other players are met. I would also like to see a thorough search of the players available on frees made so that we can hopefully find another Britton or Martinez. My final wish is for Mr Flynn to use his 'contacts' at Premier league clubs to try and secure the services of some young talent who need some first team experience. I'm sure there are the next generations of Defoe's, O'Shea's and lampard's itching to get a chance to play regular football. Thanks for your time.

Dave Morgan: Morfa is happening! We are led to believe that we will be playing there by the start of the 2005 season. We have no reason to doubt this statement. The players are all contracted until the end of June by all clubs. Brian Flynn has his budget and is in charge of how that budget will be spent. When you say 'contacts' in the Premiership, do you mean like he has already done last season? This time last season we had not even published the retain list as we had to play Cardiff first. Lots of things will be happening in June.

now then lads!

its pretty much obvious that the name of this board suggests that the club would like to hear ideas/thoughts on anything we the fans can do to help SCFC become a succesful club, i'm not being funny, but i hardly think thats its the place to go criticising flynn and his style of management or selection of squad members. we can do that on the MB. don't get me wrong, i may agree or disagree with the comments that some of you are making. but we have an opportunity here to put positive ideas to the club which will be listened to, lets not blow it eh! the only suggestion i can make at the moment is that admission prices should be kept at £10 for next season. i know that its been that way for the last three years, but i really can't see any justification (in the public eyes) for an increase. especially after the season we have just had. the increased attendances during the offers goes some way to supporting this. lets have a little success before we start asking people to pay more eh! i'm sure that if we were a little successful then you could increase the prices mid season in order to strengthen the squad for a push of some sort (i remember sharpe doing this during the div 2 play off year, though thinking again i can't remember him actually strengthening anything lol). i know prices are always a fav topic of discussion when it comes to putting across ideas, but that's just my little input for now!

re: now then lads!

Gary, take your point but while most other grounds are charging £12 to get in we are stuck on a tenner, and will fall further behind the leading pack, unlike most clubs we have no real way of making extra revenue through functions etc, so although R&D are not as well supported as us they make more money because they have the facilities, I know this will be addressed when we eventually move to Morfa but in the meantime a £1 increase per entrant wouldn't break the bank for the paying punter and give the club an extra £150,000 to play with (based on last seasons figures) should we do well that figure could raise to £200k or in other words enough to pay Roberto Martinez and Leon Britton.

Dave Morgan: Jacque hits the nail firmly on the head. Remember that wage capping is now in force. We are only allowed to spend a % of money generated. As we are in a position of no room to generate funds via hospitality, we are left with only gate receipts. (Rushden & Diamonds earn more via hospitality than they take in gate receipts) Every pound generated is ploughed back into the club to try and generate success. We are not like past owners, we are fans ourselves & only want to make our club a success (both on the pitch and financially)

I'll get my coat

We all know that we haven't got the facilities for club house type revenue so lets make the best of what we've got, buying shite beer is a false economy, open the ground earlier so that supporters can have their 3/4 pints before a game in the Mel/Ivor/Harry Bars instead of the Potters/Gari or Builders (I don't think Weatherspoons will give us a cut of the huge profit they made for the Hull game - do you). Erect an awning (can't be that expensive) down the length of the Mel Nurse bar (and others) and get some picnic benches under so that supporters can sit before a game (surely these picnic benches can be borrowed as most pubs with beer gardens do not use them during the winter months). OK I'll get my coat, I'll probably need it...
Dave Morgan: The Vetch is governed by strict licensing laws. We are only able to serve alcohol in certain areas for a set time prior to & after the game. Also as soon as the bars are open, the bar staff, gatemen and stewards would all need to be on duty - extra wages.
It would be very nice if the pubs around the Vetch who make a large profit from the fans took out an advert or similar to pass back some of their profits to the club. Perhaps, that way, fans could decide where to drink in the knowledge that the pub was doing their bit to help the club.

pay a pub

following on from the successfull 'pay a player' scheme last year, how about doing a 'pay a pub (social club)' scheme? perhaps everyone who contributes could have their name put on the wall outside (like they do at new grounds). i'm sure that as this directly benefits the fans it would be a popular crusade and is much needed if you ask me. in these days of premiership football and sad hammam targeting fans throughout wales we need to increase our profile as much as possible and get the swansea city brand in everyone's face! i mean how many places can you buy an official club shirt? the club shop and qic sports in the enterprise zone!!!??? this needs to be sorted asap

Dave Morgan: You can also buy club shirts in JT Morgans. At the end of the day it all comes down to profit and the big retailers (JJB etc) would charge so much for themselves there would be a little amount left for the club - we would prefer to have the profit rather than a big corporate chain. With regards the pub, as mentioned before, all this kind of venture will be incorporated in the Morfa development.

well done

Big well done to the board for securing reserve team football because we need it.Carry on lads you're doing a good job
Dave Morgan: We have, since taking over, always known that reserve football was needed. The problem was what league could we join? Most existing leagues would not entertain us, due to travelling distance involved. Wayne Powell found out about the set up that we have joined. It suits us down to the ground as all teams involved are no more than 2 hours drive away. We can use mini buses not coaches (keep costs down) We knew that matches were needed for players returning from injury or not in first team squad, as well as the young players who are approaching the age to break into first team squad.

The Great Escape

Swansea City have never (ever!!) been recognised as a club with an acute sense of business acumen, but this last season has given them a great opportunity to build on the sense of community spirit shown by themselves (the new board) and the supporters (both through the Trust and directly) The Commercial/Marketing/Promotion side of the business really needs a kick up the arse, to involve all parties - themselves, the players, schools, businesses, local organisations and the fans - in the well-being and development of our club. One small incident today brought home to me how small-thinking and unfocused they are as regards moving this club forward, and being able to stand comparison with other clubs. I called in to the shop to buy the Great Escape video - of course there were none in stock, and I had to pay my £12 up front for them to order me a copy. This seems unbelievable for a retail organisation. Does not anyone have the foresight (or common sense) to order 50 or 100 at a time and think positively in terms of being able to sell them ? Are funds that tight that the club cannot afford any outlay whatsoever ? And is there not a greater profit opportunity available - if 50 or 100 were ordered they would be available at a cheaper rate to the club (hence more profit) than ordering in batches of ??? every few days as customers are ordering and paying. Is it conceivable that somebody can give me a truthful response to these points ?
Dave Morgan: Some fans only pick up on negative points. We are working within a budget and did not want to order hundreds in case we were left with them unsold. Is it too much to ask to wait 7 days for a copy? How do you know what deal we have with supplier regards profit?
It took a while to get permission off the various parties to bring out the video. Demand could have dried up since the Hull match (we did not know how many would be needed)
50 were ordered between lunchtime on Friday and 3pm on Saturday. Some to Canada, Ireland, Europe. Even one by Leon Britton who called from his holiday to order one!

Automatic promotion

Mid-table mediocracy is unacceptable, Automatic promotion has to be Brian Flynns target, our fan base is big enough and so is the city. We need to be pushing for 1st division football when we move into the Morfa. Let's stop thinking small time, lets be a bit more ambitious, eh

Dave Morgan: We are constantly moving this club forward. We are still working with tight budgets as a result of previous problems. We want to take this club back up the league where we all feel it deserves to be - it will take time and with the wage capping restrictions put on us this season we cannot afford to exceed them. We do not envisage being in the same position as last year and we have certainly not discounted the idea of promotion.

ALTER THE VETCH FLYER

I used to buy one but the chances of winning are awful. Its all over as soon as you now you've lost - a non event. May I suggest that 5 smaller prizes are also given as well as the main jackpot. The 5 smaller winners should have the chance to take a penalty against Cyril the Swan to win £20. If they are not up to it they can gamble and pick an envelope which will indicate they have won something else from a pair of jack pants to a shirt. I'm sure this would improve sales as everyone would like to take a penalty against Cyril on their favourite pitch. I guarantee this will increase sales when people see what's on offer. If it doesn't ill buy Dave Morgan a pint!!!

Dave Morgan: The take up on the flyer at the moment is very good and is well received as a revenue into the club. Your comments have been handed to the commercial department for them to look at the viability of them. Save your beer money and invest it somewhere into the club!
