Pre-Season Training Looms On The Horizon

PRE-SEASON TRAINING LOOMS ON THE HORIZON

We all know and have read much about some of the targets that Brian Flynn has lines up for his side next season. Lee Trundle, Chris Llewellyn and Karl Connolly form part of that but three more strikers seems a bit excessive to me so we can possibly expect to see one arrive?

Llewellyn looks almost certain at the moment according to press reports to be joining Notts County as they have emerged as the late runners to capture this signature. News has reached us at JackArmy.net that we do seem out of the race for Chris due to his own reasons that we won't reveal on here. Whether this information is correct or not it remains to be seen but it has come from a usually reliable source.

Karl Connolly is someone that needs to prove his fitness to us by all accounts and I believe that next season we cannot afford to carry passengers. If we are to run with a squad of around 22 people then someone who is not 100% fit can be classed as a passenger.

Lee Trundle is different. I just have this sneaky feeling that we are going to get the signature of this one. Other clubs now rumoured to have shown an interest are Port Vale and Notts County again. Vale can be ruled out as they have a transfer embargo slapped on their heads and County are cash strapped and I am guessing will be hard pushed to afford both Trundle and Llewellyn. Sometimes you just get the feeling that something may happen and I have that feeling as far as Trundle is concerned.

That aside we are still light in all other areas of the team. Goalkeeping, Defence and Midfield needs some additions. On these sections we have heard very little and we wonder whether these are a case of cards being played very close to someone's chest. Half the time this summer we have seen names being banded about because they have been picked upon by some part of the press or another and they are asking for comment but maybe we have players lined up that will give us the strength that we desperately need in depth. We can hope so.

Whilst at times it worries me that we have not picked up players quickly this summer I try to console myself with the fact that it is better to wait for the right player to come along than to pick up the first player that has come along. At least we seem to be waiting for the right player to be signed to the club and I certainly would struggle to argue with too many of the contracts that we have offered this season in terms of who has been offered them.

One thing for sure, the players will report back next Monday and we have to hope that all of them remember last season and how close we came to looking forward to trips to Dagenham and Redbridge and learn from that. The message on the dressing room wall should be simple "That must not be allowed to happen again"

Bring it on? And some players too please Brian if you can.
