Blast From The Past - Geoff Thomas

Blast From The Past - Geoff Thomas

Geoff Thomas was my boyhood idol. I used to watch football with my Uncle and he was always singing his praises and soon I was doing the same. The rest of the crowd were giving him stick. Like a lot of home grown players he often had the crowd on his back. He played in midfield and spent his entire career (9 years)here except for a short period when he went on loan to Manchester United! 5 years after he left the club he turned up on my door step delivering milk. Was he any good? He was to me but I was young and naive and it was the poorest era of football in Swansea`s history (early 70`s / Harry "break a leg " Gregg ).Thank you Janner where ever you are.

I have just read Paul Singh's profile of Geoff Thomas - he was also one of my boyhood idols and I remember a very skilful player - used to tatnd on north bank and sing his praises

Janner had vision, flair, stacks of talent. Sadly, some of his team-mates were two moves behind him. He was one of the best passers of a ball that I have ever seen in a Swansea strip. The crowd did give him stick at times, he was considered a lazy player by some, but he could control a game without breaking sweat. Tremendous reader of the game, excellent football brain, an intelligent player. Could have played at a much higher level.
