Saints have awarded another youngster a pro contract.

God may have given rock & roll to us, but Sam Argent certainly held his head up proudly as he was awarded a professional contract with Saints on his 17th birthday.

Argent appeared in Saints friendly at Eastleigh and has made rapid progress, mainly in the right back spot for both the U18 side and the reserves, originally hailing from Basingstoke he has been with the club since the age of 11.

Not believed to be a relative of Rod Argent, of both the Zombies and the group of the same name, when asked if he had heard of the Zombies, Sam is alledged to have said that he had never been to Portsmouth.

Argent's professional contract is sure to appease several members of the TUI message board who have recently been asking the club to sign players with more rock & roll sounding surnames, indeed in thei season's centres of excelence both Dave Genesis & Paul Pink-Floyd are hoping to earn a scholarship next year as is American triallist Billy ZZ Top.
