Duffy Transfer Decision Imminent

Jenkins Ready For Duffy Decision

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has said that he is expecting a decision over the Darryl Duffy saga by the middle of next week.

The Swans have been in for their former on loan striker almost since last season ended with Hull demanding big money for the striker they have hardly played since they signed him. There has also been interest from Hartlepool as well as clubs in his native Scotland but it has also been reported that his preferred destination is the Liberty Stadium.

Swansea have refused to be drawn into a bidding war for the striker but Jenkins admits that it is now time for a decision as Roberto begins his first pre-season with his squad in readiness for the season opener on August 11.

"We have an offer on the table but we still differ in our valuation of the player. "I wouldn't say that we are far apart but we do have to be mindful of making sure that Roberto (Martinez) can do all that he wants to this summer."

"But the Hull chairman has confirmed to me that Hartlepool have come forward and that obviously means we will have a battle on our hands if we are to sign Darryl. "One way or another, we expect things to be sorted out by the middle of next week, and by that I mean the situation over Duffy and possibly three or four more signings that Roberto is working on."

The Swans are also due a decision on another striker next week - Jason Scotland should find out on Wednesday whether he has been granted a work permit for his move to Swansea whilst the position regarding a new goalkeeper should also be clearer over the next few days.

Dorus de Vries was reported as being in Swansea at the end of last week and a decision on whether he turns down higher placed clubs for a move to Swansea is expected in the next day or so.

"I think Roberto is still talking to him," Jenkins admitted. "But he does have a few options as well. It is no secret that we do need a new keeper as we only have one. "Hopefully things should become a little clearer in the next few days."

There is certain to be further transfer activity at the Liberty before the season starts with Roberto still working through what remains of his initial list of 70 and it still remains to be seen whether there is further transfer activity through the "out" door as he prepares a final squad listing that will form our assault on League One for next season.

Interesting times ahead.
