Roberto Martinez gives his reaction following the 0-0 draw with West Brom at the Liberty

Roberto told the official site: "It was a good exercise, you can see all the hard work that we've been putting in during pre-season, especially in Spain, and it's paid off today.

"To play against a side like West Brom was good, we know what they're like on the ball and how well they did last season, and I thought that it was a great test and a great challenge for our players.

"They did everything but put the ball into the back of the net, but I'm really happy with the whole exercise.

"When you've got quality sides playing against each other that's what you get. But you can see that the players have got a lot of volume and intensity under their belts, and now is the moment to sharpen things up, but this exercise was very positive.

"As you can see we have 24, 25 players and it's important that they are in the best possible condition to play their role in the campaign. It's 10 very demanding months and we need everybody ready to play their role.

"Overall we've got the squad ready to start the season, but it's not for me to select the team, football makes that decision. But the players have all worked really hard."
