Butler: We Need To Get Rid Of These Demons
Tuesday, 16th Dec 2008 08:24

For the second time in a week Tom Butler has been speaking out about the run of draws that the Swans have had in the league

It has been no wins in six for Swansea City with the last five ending as stalemate including Saturday's 1-1 draw with Sheffield United that included a man of the match performance from Butler.

But the winger knows that draws will not see the Swans challenging at the top end of the table and he is keen for his team mates to get rid of their "demons" and turn the dominance in games into victories.

Speaking to the Evening Post, Butler said "There is going to be pressure on us now, in the back of our heads we hear draw, draw, draw and it's extremely frustrating.

"When we finish the game I go away and think about the chances we've had, but all we can do is look forward to the next game and put it right.

"We need to get rid of those demons and score more goals — we haven't scored in the first half for a few games and that would help.

"We are cruising or battering teams and then all of a sudden one lapse of concentration and we've lost two points. It can really zap you. A lot of teams in the league would be buzzing at a draw with this side, but it says something about our ambition having just come up that draws are not acceptable. It would be different if we were struggling, but we're dominating.

"The fact is we haven't won in six. The way we've been dominating teams it's hard to take a draw," said Butler. "We're dropping too many points. We've said it a few times that we should have won by a lot, but the fact is we haven't.

"We don't want to wait until the end of the year and wonder where we could have been had we won that game or had we not conceded late on there.

"That's why we know we need to turn this around pretty soon.

"But with one or two win s and teams around us losing we'll be up there again. The league will stay as tight as this until as late as March and only then will teams break off. It's case of not panicking — the key is to stay in there.

"As players we do have enough experience to realise where we are despite the frustration. If we were down the relegation zone it would be different, or even if we weren't creating the chances, or if we weren't playing well full stop.

"But we're still in the mix, dominating sides and playing well and all that is missing is being a bit more clinical."
