Swansea City are set for a £350,000 swoop for Leyton Orient defender Tamika Mkandawire according to the Daily Mail.

Mkandawire has been linked with a move to the Liberty Stadium over the summer after reports suggested that the Malawian was offered a trial at the club by then manager Roberto Martinez. Interest has been high in the 26 year old with Watford and Millwall both thought to be interested in luring the defender away from Brisbane Road.

Born in Mzuzu Malawi, Mkandawire's career got off to a slow start after failing to win a place in the New England Revolution side after a trail with the MLS outfit. From 1999-2004 he spent his early part of his career at West Brom, initially as a trainee he failed to make a single appearance for the Hawthorns club . Craving first team action he was sent out on loan to Hereford United, where he made 14 appearances and scored 1 goal in his initial first stint at Edgar Street.

Impressing then Bulls manager Graham Turner, he signed the defender outright in 2004. Making 112 appearances and scoring 11 goals Mkandawire sought a fresh challenge and a move to current club Leyton Orient followed. Signing for the London club in 2007, the defender has become one of the clubs most prized assets.
