Wyndham Backs Monk For Cup Final

Swansea legend Wyndham Evans has backed Garry Monk to play in the Wembley showpiece ahead of Kyle Bartley as a replacement for the unfortunate Chico Flores.

Although Bartley appears to be at the head of the queue to play in the League Cup final, Evans says he would select the even dependable Monk to take on Bradford a week on Sunday.

If it was my choice I would go for Monk," he told the Evening Post.

"I think Monk would do a great job. He's got a lot of experience, he knows the club inside out and it would be lovely for him to get the nod after signing a new contract.

"I would go for Monk but I think Laudrup will go for Bartley.

"Bartley's a big, strong lad and I think Laudrup might choose him in order to deal with Bradford's direct style," Evans added.

"Bradford's striker James Hanson is a big threat in the air, and Bartley has the physicality to combat that.

"To be fair to Bartley, he has shown so far that he has a great future ahead of him.

"It would be great to see him get the chance," he said.

"Initially Laudrup seemed a little reluctant to play Monk but, when he has selected him, Monk hasn't let anyone down.

"Monk knows Ashley Williams very well and has played alongside him a lot, so that might work in his favour.

"Whoever Laudrup goes for, I've got the utmost confidence Swansea will do the job and beat Bradford."
