Salford based Kuwaiti businessman Dr Marwan Koukash has emerged as a potential new owner for Leeds United, barely six months after Bahrain based GFH Capital bought the club from Ken Bates. Koukash, owner of Salford City Reds outlined his ambitious plans to acquire a football club and BBC Sport say it could be us.

Koukash said “There is a club I’m looking at which hopefully we will be able to secure within the next month or two,”

“I’m not going to reveal which club it is but it will compliment my interest in racing and rugby.”

“Before I got involved in racing I was at the point where I nearly completed the purchase of a Championship side.

“I had quite a lot of success early on to the point where I put football aside and concentrated more on racing, and now I’m looking for a new challenge.”

“The particular club we’re looking at the remedy for it is there. It was a huge club previously and it just needs that little bit of extra investment to take it to the next level.

“By bringing in the personnel that were previously associated with the club at its heyday and bringing people in who are genuine club supporters it will excite the fans.

“Once I get the football club I will definitely have my own TV channel which will cover my three sports; racing, rugby and football.”

Of course, it might not be us but many will read between the lines when the Doctor talks of it once being "a huge club", needing "that little bit of extra investment" and "bringing in the personnel that were previously associated with it at his heyday."

It is a description however that could fit at lot of Championship and even League One clubs, however could this be the start of TOMA2 (take over my arse 2) on twitter?

Despite welcoming GFH capital in wrestling the club from the grasp of Bates, many fans question whether or not they have the financial clout to return the club to the Premiership. From the outset, they said they would not be spending "crazy money" on players and a combination of disappointing financial results and differing statements from the owners and their parent company have heightened speculation that GFH hope to quickly sell the club on for a profit.

Having already sold-off two significant shareholdings in Leeds, 10% to Bahrain bank IIB and around 3% to businessman Saleh Nooruddin, earlier this summer the possibility of Steve Parkin, a lifelong Leeds fan and owner of Clipper Logistics acquiring 51% was rumoured but it all came to nothing.

Former chief executive Alan Pearson, now Hull RL's owner was also linked in forming a consortium to try and buy us but again it all turned out to be nothing more than idle talk.

Koukash certainly talks a good game and supporters of many clubs up and down the country may well be dreaming he has his eyes on their club.

His links with Salford City Reds should not be too much of an issue either although they are close in proximity to a certain football club who share their "Red Devils" nickname, many Salford fans accused them of stealing it from their 1934 team, who went on a mini-tour of France and earned the nickname Les Diables Rouges.
