Better than last week — podcast
Tuesday, 20th Aug 2013 22:43 by Clive Whittingham

The podcast boys are back, joined this week by former QPR midfielder Scott Donnelly who has recently changed his name to David Beckham as part of a sponsorship deal with his new club Farnborough.

Donnelly was released by QPR during John Gregory’s reign as manager back in 2007 after coming up through the ranks at the club to make 14 appearances for the senior side.

A spell in non-league with Wealdstone followed before his former coach at Loftus Road Gary Waddock rescued him and took him to Aldershot. He shone at the Recreation Ground as Waddock’s side won promotion into the Football League and subsequently earned a move back to the big time with Swansea City.

A change of managers at the Liberty Stadium stunted his progress and it was Waddock again who got the best out of him, this time during loan spells with Wycombe. A bad ACL injury left Donnelly struggling for fitness and although he turned out 16 times for Newport last season as they won the Confernce he was without a club this summer.

He has now been picked up by Farnborough in Conference South and as part of the club’s sponsorship with bookmaker Paddy Power that will see all members of the first team squad change their name to greats of the game his first task after penning a deal on Saturday was to get onto the Deed Poll and officially become David Beckham.

Donnelly discusses that, his time at Rangers and some of Marc Bircham’s better pranks with host David Fraser, regulars Paul Finney and Chris Mendes, and Kick magazine editor Ash Rose.
