Becchio row hots up at Carrow Road?
Thursday, 28th Nov 2013 21:52

Former striker Luciano Becchio has entered into a war of words with his Norwich boss Chris Hughton. Becchio expressed his frustrations to the Daily Mirror thus drawing an angry response from Chris Hughton. Could this row increase the likelihood of Becchio making a sentimental return to Elland Road next January.

Becchio was controversially sold on transfer deadline day in January, a cash plus player adjustment saw Steve Morison move north. However with hindsight the deal looks rubbish on both sides of the spectrum.

Morison was bombed out of Elland Road by Brian McDermott and is currently on loan to his former club Millwall.

Becchio made just eight appearances for the Canaries between January and last seasons end, without scoring. Norwich signed three strikers in the summer thus restricting the Argentine to just fourteen minutes worth of action this season in a league cup tie with Bury.

Leeds did want to bring the player who scored 75 goals in 190 games back on loan, however Chris Hughton proved to be an immobile obstacle and today his frustrations bubbled over in the tabloid press.

"I'm surprised and frustrated at what's happened to me," he told the Daily Mirror.

"It's not as if there's been a problem between me and the manager. We've had no arguments, no confrontations. It's just normal and I've carried on working hard in training, scoring goals.

"If I'd been played and not done if for the team, I could understand it. Then I'd have an explanation.

"But I've not had any chance to show what I can do and I've not been given any reasons. I'm mystified by what's going on. I can't understand it at all."

Becchio also appeared to question his future in East Anglia, He said "I've not had the chance and I'm not getting any answers either. If the club don't want me, what was the point of signing me?

"If I'm not helping the team, what's the point in me staying? I can't figure it out at all"

His attack inevitably drew a response from Canaries boss Chris Hughton.

"Luciano knows that should not have gone out in the paper", Hughton told the BBC.

"But that is something between myself and Luciano. He is a good lad and my door is always open.

"What he has done is make everyone aware of the frustrations he feels. What he has to do is make those clear through the appropriate channels.

"The relationship I have with Luciano is very good and he is someone I have got a lot of respect for.

"We made a decision we wanted to keep him and that is why we have not allowed him to go out on loan.

"It is all about managerial decisions and we brought in three strikers over the summer, so there was always going to be competition."

Although Becchio was a regular scorer for us, he is not Premiership quality and I'm still amazed Chris Hughton thought he was, although he clearly saw a window of opportunity to move on the equally out-of-depth Steve Morison and take a chance on the Argentine.

However, if we could add him to our attack for the business end of the season I would not be complaining.

I think his basic problem is that he's not good enough for the Premiership. My mate in Norwich said that playing at that level made him look like he'd never been coached in the basics of how to play football!
