LFW Travel Guides - Nottingham, City Ground
Tuesday, 24th Dec 2013 11:22 by Clive Whittingham

QPR are in Nottingham on Boxing Day evening to face Forest in a live Sky game. If you’re taking advantage of the free coach travel, or going under your own steam, read on...

Ground Name: The City Ground

Capacity: 30, 602 (all seated)

Address:City Ground, Nottingham, NG2 5FJ

Main Telephone No: 0115 982 4444

Ticket Office: 0871 226 1980

By Car:

Most of the guides and sat navs will recommend junction 24 of the M1 and then the A453 towards Nottingham followed by the A52 east towards Grantham and then the A6011 into the city - the ground is along that road. The A453 is a renowned pain in the arse though so you could possibly try junction 25 and then the A52 Brian Clough Way that connects Nottingham and Derby into town. Possibly a better bet is leaving the M1 at junction 21a (Leicester east) and following the A46 towards Newark for 20 miles, then the A606 towards Nottingham, join the A52 using the fourth exit at the roundabout junction between the two roads and then it’s onto the A6011 into town as above. I’d do that personally.

Parking:

There is a large car park at the ground apparently but I have never had any problems finding street parking around and about the City Ground. There is also a £3 council car park on matchdays on the Victoria embankment near the cricket ground.

By Train

In 2013, trains in Britain do not run on Boxing Day.

Pubs:

Nottingham means only one thing for many Rangers fans - Hooters. I still remember coming back on a packed train from Mansfield with QPR fans jumping up and down singing “three stops to Hooters” - honestly show a QPR fan a pair of tits... Turn left out of the station’s main entrance and left again. If scantly clad, busty young ladies serving beer isn’t your thing then there is a vast array of chain places in the city centre. The Larwood and Voce next to the cricket ground that used to be a regular away fans’ pub is now home fans only which means on a Saturday most travelling fans are now directed to the Wheeler Bar at Notts County’s ground although whether that will be the case for Boxing Day games I don’t know..

Coach:

The club is running free coach travel to this game, leaving Loftus Road at 14.30 and the Target Roundabout at 15.00, but those are now booked. The LSA is running a coach with a £10 flat fare leaving the Springbok at 14.00. Call Gary on 07506 028 189 to book your place.

Tickets:

Tickets are available on the day for this one priced £28 for adults, £20 for seniors over 65, £14 for under 18s, £7 for under 12s. These must be purchased from the kiosk at the back of the Brian Clough Stand, which is to the right of the away end as you approach the ground. The organisation there has never been anything other than dreadfully chaotic and QPR fans collecting and buying tickets from that window in previous years have often missed the kick off — don’t expect that to have changed, arrive in plenty of time.

As a Notts resident and regular traveller from here to LR, I'd definitely recommend jct 21a...tho 24 on the way home should be ok.
Loads of street parking in West Bridgford to the south of Trent Bridge cricket ground, you should find somewhere within 10-15 minutes walk of the ground .(easy access from both 21a & 24)
For those who don't fancy Hooters or the city centre, Bridgford should also provide a hassle free drink or bite to eat - trying its best to be cosmopolitan with a reasonable selection of bars, pubs & eateries, quite a few of which are independent.

Agree with NGB, although Im not longer an inmate...resident...there, thankfully!

Id suggest you stick West Bridgford in the Sat Nav and aim to park, drink and walk to the ground from there. Junction 21A is the way to go too, otherwise you have to skirt around the city on many a country lane.

Good luck to those who travel, I have the excuse of being on Duty but even without that I doubt Ill be heading back to Notts anytime soon!
