Barcelona Latest to be Linked With Morgan Schneiderlin
Tuesday, 24th Feb 2015 10:31

Morgan Schneiderlin is a man in demand, but now it looks like he might get a really big move instead of a shuffle sideways to the North London Soccer Chickens.

They say patience is a virtue and Morgan Schneiderlin might just get a big reward for staying at Saints for another year after news came out that Barcelona are the latest club to be interested in signing the French midfielder.

This will of course disappoint the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur who know they can't compete with the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid when it comes to signing players.

However there is one big drawback to the stories in the media this week about the Catalan giants proposed £25 million bid, Barca are banned from signing any players in 2015 as a punishment from FIFA for breaching rules on transfers for players under 18.

This will of course be a big stumbling block unless the likes of the Daily Mail etc have insider info that this transfer embargo will be lifted and it shows just how ludicrous the media transfer frenzy is outside of the transfer windows, the media is desperate to sell papers and looks to make up any story to do so aided by agents looking to move players on and make money, so desperate are they that they don't consider the reality.

If Schneiderlin did move to a big foreign club Saints supporters would find it easier to take than if he transferred to a fellow Premier league club, so in this sense I suspect most Saints supporters will be hoping that if Schneiderlin does leave in the summer and this looks increasingly likely, that it is to the continent rather than another English club.

Yes, I would much prefer Morgan to move to Barca or PSG or anyone not in the PL. We are currently two points behind Arsenal (should be 1 point ahead!). If we don’t start taking ourselves seriously as rivals to these clubs how can we expect other to.

Surely you're not suggesting that a big rich club like Barcelona would be allowed to skirt the rules of a fine upstanding organization like FIFA again!
(The signing of Suarez this past year under the same ban was an accident- he was holding a pen when he was practicing his diving and as he flopped to the ground the hand with the pen just happened to land on a contract.)
NIck, I am shocked you would suggest such things could happen under such a pillar of virtue as Sepp Blatter. !

I said when the Mail started so campaign to unsettle our players that Morgan would go to a much bigger club than Arsenal or Spurs if he left. Unfortunately there may be some substance in this latest rumour. At least it should mean we would receive top dollar for him. Better still would be to give him CL experience at StMarys but we as usual are doing things the hard way.

As much as I love Morgan this is the best piece of news I've seen in a while with regards to his future. I hate to say it but I think that the CL places realistically passed us by with the one point from WH and Liverpool games. Morgan's made no secret of the fact he wants to play at the top level. If Barca can get around the embargo, Morgan will go with the love of most Saints' fans to a dream club, Saints will get a good price and we will not have to face him twice a year in the EPL (and have Spurs' or Arsenal's fans rub it in our faces). It'd be a win win. I'm still surprised PSG haven't come in with a big offer..
