Monk Ready For Reading And Nottingham Forest

Garry Monk will take his side to face two friendlies in two days when they take on Reading at Adams Park tonight before heading to the East Midlands and Nottingham Forest at the City Ground tomorrow.

Following the one draw, one win tour of Germany, it is the next two friendly matches that now occupy the attention of the Swans boss as he prepares his team for the season opener at Chelsea that is just over two weeks away.

The Swans are likely to field two different looking sides in the two games as he concentrates on getting as much game time under everyone's belt as possible and after these games there is just one more chance for players to impress when Deportivo La Coruna visit the Liberty Stadium next Saturday.

Monk believes that the games against the Championship sides will prove to be good tests for his team as they move one step closer to a campaign where they will look to eclipse last season's record breaking run

“We will possibly look at giving the players a full 90 minutes, but that depends on how the game goes,” he said

“We will mix the teams up again. The players will get more minutes and that will hopefully make them sharper — that’s the plan over the next week or so.

“I wanted really tough games and that’s what we have got. We’ve played Reading quite a few times in pre-season and they’ve always been good games while we’ve had some great battles with Forest over the years.

“It’s important that we have good challenges because the players need to get certain things out of these games.”
