QPR 1 Chievo 2
QPR 1 Chievo 2

QPR’s poor pre-season campaign came to an end with a lacklustre 2-1 defeat to Serie A new boys Chievo Verona at Loftus Road

In truth 2-1 flattered the hosts as Chievo were easily the better team for much of the match and could have won by more.

Rangers went into the game in an unorthodox 4-2-3-1 formation with Blackstock playing as the lone front man – Dowie left out Simon Walton ahead of his impending move to Plymouth Argle. Cheivo played the same system and showed QPR how it should be done.

Ipswich target Erjon Bogdani scored in the first half and the impressive Simone Bentivoglio slammed in a second after the break before Dexter Blackstock halved the deficit with a twice taken penalty – Rangers’ first goal in more than 270 minutes of pre-season football.

Thanks to excessive alcohol intake and an eager trigger finger on the East Midlands Train website on Friday night I unexpectedly found myself at Loftus Road this afternoon and a full match report is to follow.
