Taylor - Britton Has Still Got It
Tuesday, 25th Aug 2015 07:00 by Planet Swans (follow us on Twitter @swansnews)

Leon Britton is expected to take a place in the Swansea line up tonight - quite possibly as captain - as the Swans start off on what we hope to be another successful Capital One Cup run against League Two side York City at the Liberty.

For large parts of the summer it looked very much like Leon Britton was on his way out of the Liberty having stayed at home whilst the squad headed off on a pre-season camp to Germany and speculation that there was interest both at home and in America.

But as the summer wore on it started to look more likely that he would be staying as he got action when the friendlies returned to this country and a substitute appearance last weekend at Newcastle suggested that he remained very much in the plans of Garry Monk even if first team starts would be few and far between.

The manager and player confirmed what we wanted to hear that Leon was staying and tonight we will get the chance to see just what he is capable of doing after 13 years at the club.

He has made over 450 appearances for the club in that time scoring just 17 goals and it has been more than four years since he found himself on the scoresheet - his last goal officially coming against Nottingham Forest in the play off semi final although many will claim that he scored against Arsenal at the Emirates the season before last.

Either way he has earned the right to the title of legend and team mate Neil Taylor is one who is glad to see him stay believing that he can still produce the goods when needed for the Swans

“Leon is Leon and everyone knows what he can do; I still believe he can do a job and that’s obviously why he is still here,” said Wales man Taylor. “He’s a great character but he’s still a great player too. He is still only 32 and in training you can see he is still a good player.

“And there is no writing him off in any way. In training he still does things that dazzle all of us. That shows you he is still capable of playing at the top level.

“We are happy he is still around because he is a big figure for this football club and the new boys coming in get to see straightaway how big a part he plays on the pitch and off it.”
