Britton - Let's Focus On Southampton
Thursday, 24th Sep 2015 07:02 by Planet Swans (follow us on Twitter @swansnews)

Leon Britton is putting the defeat at Hull City behind him and wants the Swans to focus on the next Premier League fixture which is against Southampton on Saturday as they bid to end a run of three games without a win.

Britton captained the Swans on Tuesday night against Hull but will return to his watching role on Saturday as Monk will return to, in the main, the players who have got his team into 7th place in the Premier League.

The league though is bunching and opponents Southampton may be 16th but they could leap above the Swans on Saturday with a two goal win so it is important that we get something out of the game and put to bed the last three results that have seen us fail to hit the back of the net.

We had more than enough chances on Tuesday night to secure the win against Hull but it was not to be as Hull took one of their few chances whilst we were intent on wasting most of ours costing us a place in the Fourth Round of the competition in the process.

We go to St Mary's on Saturday looking to inflict another defeat on a Southampton side who have not yet reached the heights that they set for themselves last season.

“It was very frustrating because we created a lot of chances, particularly in the first half, and we should have been a few goals up before they scored,” said Britton, talking about the Hull game.

“That’s football though. If you don’t take your chances then you won’t win.

“They got their goal and that allowed them to sit back and defend to see the game out.
“It’s very frustrating as we wanted to do well in the cup. We know how great this competition is and we had ambitions of making a real go of it.

“But there’s no time to dwell on this. Our focus quickly moves to Saturday’s game and we must mentally prepare for it as well as tactically.”
