Canavan signs on loan
Monday, 15th Feb 2016 16:43

Dale have drafted in Scunthorpe defender Niall Canavan on an initial month's loan.

What do we know about him?

Well he's left footed, so you would assume that it's Jim McNulty's place which is at most risk from this signing. McNulty was pushed out to left back on Saturday by the return of Ashley Eastham.

The 24 year old was born in Leeds but qualifies for the Republic of Ireland through an Irish passport. He has been capped at U21 level a number of times though he has yet to receive a full call up.

He's 6'3 so you'd assume that he'd bring some sort of aerial threat. He scored three goals for Scunny last season, and four the season before that - one of which was at Spotland in a 4-0 win for the Iron.

He missed the first three months of the season after picking up a knee ligament injury in the opening game of the season.

His contract with Scunny runs out this Summer, so given that the loan deal can be extended up to a maximum of three months, it's entirely possible that he has played his last game for Scunthorpe.
