Those who say that the Premier League and their club's do not respond to supporter pressure have had to eat their words today as a landmark ticket price cap has been announced.

The football Supporters Federation has been campaigning for several seasons now for a Twenty's Plenty price cap for away tickets in the Premier League, that has not quite been achieved, but the announcement that all away tickets will be capped at £30 for adults in the Premier for the next three seasons is welcome news.

Perhaps we at Saints do not feel the full force of Premier League pricing, it has hurt when we have had to pay £45 for some games and even £50 to visit Chelsea, but in the main tickets are fairly reasonable when compared to the inflated prices the big clubs charge each other when they play, sometimes supporters of the big six can find themselves paying over £60 and that is a disgrace.

In a statement, the Premier League said away fans were "essential for match atmosphere" and helped make the league unique.

It also recognised that away fans often had travel costs to pay on top of the price of a match-day ticket.

The Football Supporters' Federation (FSF) has long campaigned for cheaper tickets and wanted prices for away fans capped at £20.

FSF director of communications Michael Brunskill welcomed Wednesday's announcement, calling it "good news for fan groups around the country".

He added: "This shows that clubs will listen to reasonable, well articulated mass movements."

Eight of 18 Premier League clubs who took part in the BBC's latest Price of Football study already offer away tickets for less than £30 for some matches.

But the study, published in October, also found that nine clubs charge more than £30 for their cheapest away ticket.

One drawback of this decision though is that ironically some Championship clubs will be charging away supporters more than those travelling to see Premier League clubs. Some 13 clubs in that division charge more than £30 this season and hopefully this announcement will lead to a re think in the Championship.

Great news and it shows that the Premier league and it's member clubs are taking notice of what supporters are saying.

SalisburySaint added 22:41 - Mar 9 BBC survey info seems wrong or misleading to me as the only premier tickets for less than £30 for saints have been at Newcastle, West Brom, Arsenal and Stoke with the West Ham and Norwich tickets only cheaper as Saints subsidised the tickets
