Italian Media Claiming Saints In For Roma Playmaker
Friday, 6th May 2016 08:40

The Italian media is reporting that Saints and several other clubs are looking to Serie A for their next signing.

Saints are being linked with Roma's Serbian International Adem Ljajic.

Llajic who can play in a variety of positions including on both wings, in the centre as an attacking midfielder or as an out and out striker first came to prominence in January 2010 when a proposed deal to Manchester United fell through and his then club Partizan sold him to Fiorentina in Italy instead.

Llajic stayed at Fiorentina until the summer of 2013 when Roma paid around 11 million euros for his services in a deal reported to rise to 15 million with add ons.

His first two seasons at Roma were successful but he fell out of favour and in August 2015 he joined Inter Milan for a 1.75 million euros loan deal with the option to make it permanent for 11 million euros this summer.

His time at Inter has not been great and Calcio Mercato in Italy are reporting that the loan deal will not be made permanent and that Roma will be looking to sell elsewhere in the summer.

Given that the player only has a year left on his contract the selling price is likely to be lower than the 11 million euros that Inter Milan are baulking at paying.

Llajic has been capped 19 times by Serbia but four years ago courted controversy by refusing to sing the Serbian national anthem and was not picked by the then manager, but with a change of coach he returned to International duty and has played regularly for Serbia since.

Calcio Mercato are glowing in praise for Llajic and suggest that along with Saints Borrusia Dortmund and West Ham are also interested, however they suggest that Saints would be his best destination as he would get a better chance at St Mary's of game time and that our style would be better suited to his type of game.
