Tonight Will Be The Start Of The Revival Or The Beginning Of The End !
Thursday, 19th Apr 2018 10:21

Make no bones about it, this evening's trip to Leicester City will end with either the clubs above us nervously looking over their shoulders or breathing a sigh of relief.

If Saints lose or draw at Leicester City tonight it will make it very difficult for them to avoid relegation, however if they win then they will be breathing down the necks of one or two clubs above us who although have a good advantage at present would suddenly see us right behind them with an easier run in.

But if Saints do go down it won't be tonight that will have relegated them, but a series of poor performances over the season that have verged from pathetic at times( although far fewer than you would think) to mainly OK with crucial errors costing us, to plain bad luck as we had at Watford when we were cheated out of three points in the final minute.

But the past games don't matter now and it is all about what we do in the final five, we need to find the display that we put out in the first half against Chelsea and add to that the luck we haven't had all season and it is possible we could survive.

Certainly in most seasons there is an unlikely escapee from relegation and we just have to make sure that it is us.

Certainly Saints travel to Leicester with many of their supporters already writing them off, but a hard core of support will be there and get right behind them, if we can win then perhaps that will provide the momentum to get the rest of the fan base behind the team and start what now looks an unlikely comeback.

So by 10pm this evening we will know whether we have a chance of staying up or if we are virtually dead and buried.

Gotta say that our football has been bad Nick. You suggest it's not been bad but that we've made crucial errors. I really can't agree. Yes we made errors in defence of course but we also have failed to take our chances. Lack of goals has put extra pressure on the defence. and we lost games we should have put to bed.
If we get relegated (and it's not definite yet) then the players have a lot to answer for. Regardless of Les, or even MP, we are an established club in the PL and there is no way we should be finishing below Bournemouth, Huddersfield, Watford, Newcastle, Palace, Brighton and even Burnley! We have more quality and supposedly better players than all those. Yet the lack of heart, concentration and maybe even complacency is going to cost us.
Yes the manager was poor and the players were maybe not of the standard we had before, but they still should have been good enough not to get relegated. Most are on fat pay packets and have simply not earned that money in any way.

Seriously, anything but a win tonight and we are relegated. Logically we need 3 wins from 5, and we currently have 1 in 18. One could argue that survival is pure fantasy.

I know I won’t be popular for saying this but a draw is not a terrible result tonight especially with a good improving performance. We then have to beat Bmouth and then in all likelihood a win at Swansea would see us overtake them and be in control for the final game (assuming Swansea don’t go on a run now)

Clutching at straws yes
Desperate yes

But I am liking the fight in this team now and the 11 on the pitch and that has got me back being positive for one last time tonight

If we lose tonight, we will have lost 5 in a row, 4 of them under a manager brought in to turn around our fortunes.

Those results would be the worst all season, so while we might want to look back and blame others for earlier results, it were be perfectly reasonable to see this end of season form as sending us down...

...but we’re not going to lose. We’re going to win, and then we’re going to beat Bournemouth and then we will be right back in the mix.

But what we all need to do today is to pray to the Gods of football, down on our knees, to apologise for having been so cock sure of our essential superiority to sack Puel. Puel has had his reward, both at St Mary’s and in turning Leicester’s season around, so the Gods of football may feel merciful tonight if we are sufficiently contrite!! Anyone got any better ideas?!

Reading comments about Pue. I sometimes feel I am listening to a friend who finally got rid of a crazy girlfriend, and now starts whinging "maybe she will take me back!" You grab him by the lapels and scream "Don't you remember??"

If you watch Freddie's Opposition View video, The Leicester fans have the same complaint as we had: Get possession of the ball, knock it about from sideline to sideline, let the opponent get all their players back in position, don't score.

The only reason they are having any success is Vardy and Mahrez don't listen to anyone, never mind Puel. So if we can just keep a man on each of those two for the whole game, we have a good chance.

We owe that rat faced prïck vardy one for his assault on vvd virtually ruining the best part of the second half of our (last )season
So best result is we win and vardy gets hit by a stray boot in the balls and sent off for petulance.

The Beginning Of The End with out doubt. If we cant beat any of the relegation favourites what chance have we of beating Leicester? We are DOOMED.
