Millwall struggling to match 17/18 highs so far - Interview
Wednesday, 19th Sep 2018 09:23 by Clive Whittingham

We caught up with @millwalljdb to find out why the Lions haven't quite been able to hit the heights of last season so far this.

A tremendous first season back at this level considering the budget Neil Harris is working on - what happened halfway through the season because your post-Christmas form was incredible?

Millwall massively exceeded the expectations of most Lions fans last year. We did actually perform very well up to Christmas but the results really started coming in the second half of the season. Ben Marshall coming in on loan from Wolves down the left and the off field influence of Tim Cahill made a real difference.

Fair to say a difficult summer? Several transfer targets went elsewhere but you got Bradshaw over the line at the end who we really rate. How do you assess the window overall?

After such a strong finish to the season, the summer was a bit of an anti-climax. We missed out on signing Marshall permanently when he went to Norwich and we only strengthened the squad late in the window. The double nature of the window seemed to really destabilise the squad. Big bids came in apparently tuning some players heads and we eventually lost George Saville after the first window was supposed to have closed. He was a very important player for us, although the £8m fee for his move to Middlesbrough was very generous.

Only one league win so far, and three defeats on the bounce going into this week, any concerns/worries about the start you've made? Any explanations for it?

This off filed instability appears to have affected performances. We played very well v Boro but threw away two points at the end and blowing up in the final quarter has been a weakness so far. We come into the QPR game (writing this before leeds) having lost three games and playing pretty poorly. So this is a big test for Neil Harris. His ability to motivate has not been questioned but his ability to adapt and adjust tactically is under scrutiny. Still with new players coming into the team and us still having some very decent players in the squad the hope is we will quickly stabilise and reestablish some momentum.

What's the current situation regarding Lewisham Council's fuckwittery and the land around The Den?

As for the shenanigans off the pitch regarding the future of The Den, it’s eerily quiet at the moment although rumours are circulating about talks with Lewisham Council.

Thanks to millwalljdb.

It's a test for Harris and a test for McClaren.
