Another fresh ref for Pompey visit - Referee
Tuesday, 27th Aug 2019 19:26 by Clive Whittingham

For the second time in as many home games, we're seeing a referee for the first time as Ross Joyce takes charge of the second round League Cup game with Portsmouth.

Referee >>> Ross Joyce (Cleveland)

Assistants >>> Gary Maskell (Woolwich) and Christopher Wade

Fourth Official >>> Anthony Da Costa (Cambridgeshire)

History

First QPR appointment as the main official.

Form

Fifteen yellows and a red in four games so far for Joyce, with two of those coming in League One, one in League Two and the other at the all-Championship clash between West Brom and Millwall in the first round of this competition.

Joyce was a regular at Conference level before making the step up to Leagues One and Two in 2015/16, starting off with 106 yellows (3.65) and six reds in 29 games. The following year he went rather ballistic, with 182 yellows (4.13) and 12 reds in 44 games — a sending off in every three and a bit games. One of those reds went the way of Pompey’s Amine Linganzi in a 1-0 away win at Cambridge in League Two. Seven were booked that day as well, and it wasn’t his highest total of the season — eight and one a week later at Carlisle 3-2 Exeter.

He booked 12 (never seen it) at Mansfield 2-2 Luton on his way to 150 yellows (3.65) and just two reds in 41 games. Last season he showed 157 yellows (3.56) and five reds in 44 games, which culminated in him getting the League Two play-off final between Newport and Tranmere at Wembley. He had Portsmouth for a 2-1 away win at Blackpool, and 3-0 Football League Trophy win at Bury.
