Former County loan keeper Wayne Hennessey has committed his immediate future to Wolverhampton Wandererers, after signing a new five-year deal at Molineux. Manager Mick McCarthy was keen to tie the youngster down to a new deal despite having two years to run on an existing contract.

The highly rated Welsh international stopper has been linked with moves to Premiership duo Arsenal and Liverpool this summer, although he has pledged his long-term future to Mick McCarthy's side by signing the new extended deal which will see him stay at Molineux until 2015.

Speaking on the clubs official web site, manager Mick McCarthy commented:

"I'm delighted that Wayne has signed his new contract."

"We are blessed to have three very good goalkeepers at the club who are currently fit and battling for the position and Wayne is somebody who I believe is a top class young keeper who will also get better."

"This is really good news for the club to have secured one of its best young players and one who will be keen to play a big part in the future. "

Despite starting the 2009/10 season as Wolves' first choice keeper, the 23-year-old was forced to play second fiddle to American Marcus Hahnemann for the majority of the season after being limited to just 13 appearances in the Premiership. The fact that Wolves has tied him down to a new five-year deal shows that manager Mick McCarthy certainly sees him as a long term successor to the 38-year-old American.

Hennessey is of course a record holder following his loan spell at Edgeley Park, as he was part of the team that went on a record breaking run during the 2006/07 season where we won nine consecutive matches without conceding a single goal.
