A whole new thread could start here.

How many excellent singers are football fans, I've cited two above.

An here's my favourite singer:

Don't really miss either of 'em but contrary to the rest of you it'd be singer-songwriter every time.

If you're good you can go on all your life, but being a footballer has a ticking clock attached. Facing up to the thing that you've lived for all your life for being taken away from you at, what, 35? 40 if you're very lucky? We know they're so loaded now they'll never need to work again, but what do they actually do? (Cricket fans will know Robin Smith has written movingly about this, about how close he came to going off the edge of a tall building)

Also: there aren't many gigs where half the fans bought a ticket for the privilege of giving you dog's abuse

What are we really talking about, the fame or the financial success? I’ve never been comfortable with the thought of either, preferring to fly under the radar and tolerate the millions.

This particular photo is one of many taken back in the 70/80’s when many (mostly expats), kicked a ball around in Los Angeles on a weekend. Prior to the WWW there was limited access to the beautiful game and the Brits in particular found the bonding and banter of a Sunday afternoon football game and follow up pub crawl a way to keep connected. The pic from that time that I found most interesting also includes Robert Plant, but it’s a player in the background wearing a QPR shirt who grabbed my attention because I swear I recognize him!
Quite what they thought of Mr Plant playing in a pair of knickers one can only guess at, but It does point to the general unhinged state that is California.

Poll: Thank God The Seaons Over.

You just have to admire Robert Plant, true to his roots for his love of the Wolves, football, as well as being a rock icon - best of all worlds.

I want to change the world and play at Loftus Road.

I'm off to work and at some stage will pick up dog shit.

It's not how I planned it.

Although, tbf, I never actually planned, per se.

Lead guitar in a female fronted metal band.

I'm not fussy which. Either or, one could be a side project.

My preference in order

First Division player, you could behave like a rock star and get away with it plus you were loved like a rock star

Lead guitarist, you can behave like a rock star and get away with it but I love football far more

Premier League, you can't get away with anything and most supporters think you're an overpaid ......

Poll: Why are you a QPR supporter?

For so many people it’s about the fame, hence the rise of reality tv. For me I’d take the anominity (spelling) of a writer and let the royalty cheques come in while the artist punishes themselves with the gruelling workload and pressures for much less return.

You have people like Graham Lyle (of Gallagher & Lyle) writing hits for the likes Tina Turner in the 80’s. She did the punishing tours etc while he could probably walk down the High Street without anyone knowing who he was.

Me neither. It'd be a case of being able to make a living doing something you love. I just think you can stay creative for longer in music than in sport.

More control over your work too I think, you can be solo, in a band, lots of options and if you don't like what you're doing easy enough to move on, you don't get the equivalent of being stuck at a club where you don't fit.
