However......Fail saying he wanted to do this match, wanted a break form PL.

I have heard he wanted to retire last season, but PGMOL wanted him to stay, due to lack of experienced officials.

No that's not the reason they wanted him to stay. He was booked to be the Jasper Carrott lookalike at their end of season party.

An officiating system that deems him not adequate to referee a Premier League game but more than good enough to referee a Championship game is inherently flawed.

5 of his 6 red cards have been rescinded this season. Yet the red card given to Onuoha at Brighton wasn't.........the panel of experts who judge these decisions should also be named and shamed.

No its not - that's how it works at all levels of the game.

It's a bit of a stretch to say he's been demoted isn't it? He'll be back in the Prem the week after and a fixture liked Barsnley Leeds often gets a Prem ref.

True and lower down the leagues there are referees learning their trade but surely at a professional level or at the very least between the Premier and the Championship there should be no difference between the competence of the officials

Isn't that a bit like saying there should be no difference in the ability of the players?

Clearly its a higher standard of football, hence it needs a "better" referee

It's relegation for referees.

Bloke at work is an AFC Wimbledon S/T'er and he said it's been years since he was so enraged after a game. They lost 3-1 (two of Sutton's goals came in the 90th and 91st min) and played with 10 men for 75 minutes. He said not only was it never a sending off but the referee was so appalling all night in terms of the decisions he made that affected Wimbledon.

I doubt the football world at large will hear a squeak.

Hardly like for like the ability of a team affects that team and no other. The abililty of a referee affects others.

Seemed a soft one, but was an idiotic bit of defending. Seen them given.

We're all allowed to be a bit one-eyed when assessing the decisions our own team gets though.

I thought the sending off was reasonable, the defender made a bigger mistake than the ref but you can see why the ref gave it.

Was not at the game, but we've all been at games where the ref makes what are perceived to be 1-2 bad calls and then each decision is treated ass an outrage and everyone winds each other up into a fury of sorts.

Poll: Will we stay up?

As the levels increase so does speed, skill of players.

Referees have to make quicker decisions, be fitter, come under more pressure, results "matter" more at each level of the pyramid.

I agree, to an extent, that 1 level up/down, there is not much difference, but there IS a difference and it IS more difficult to referee at the next level up.
