Wednesday Diary — Buzsaky back, Faurlin hunts caps, tube closures
Wednesday Diary — Buzsaky back, Faurlin hunts caps, tube closures

Akos Buzsaky played his first football since October today with a run out in a reserve game against Tottenham.

News

The Hungarian midfielder has endured an injury hit two years with QPR after initially bursting onto the Loftus Road scene following a move from Plymouth. His latest four month lay off came after he tore his knee cartilage in the first half of a home draw with Norwich City in October but he was part of a QPR reserve side that won a behind closed doors friendly game at Tottenham today along with Josh Parker who is recovering from a stress fracture in his foot.

Rangers also gave run outs to new signings Danny Shittu and Pascal Chimbonda while Fitz Hall and Martin Rowlands also played 90 minutes. Troy Hewitt, on trial with the R’s from local non-league side Harrow Borough, came on as a substitute. Hogan Ephraim, banned from the next three first team games for his sending off at Reading, scored twice in a 2-1 win just a month after the R’s were beaten 8-3 in a similar fixture.

Neil Warnock told the club’s official website: “It was great to see Akos out there again. The same goes for Josh Parker too, who has been sidelined for a while. Obviously Akos has still got a long way to go fitness-wise, but getting 45 minutes under his belt will do him no harm whatsoever. It was great to be able to shout at him again from the sidelines. It was a great work-out. I couldn't have wished for it to go any better to be honest."

Buzsaky’s fellow foreign midfielder at QPR Alejandro Faurlin has today told the Uxbridge Gazette he hopes a potential promotion to the Premiership could thrust him into contention for the Argentina squad. Faurlin was capped at Under 17 level but has not featured since but the 24 year old was in fine form as the R’s won 1-0 at Reading on Friday.

Faurlin said: “For me to play for the full Argentina side is a dream, but they have a big, big squad – and you have to play at the top level before you can be considered. But if we get promotion, who knows? And maybe we can speak after that.”

Rangers already have players winning international caps of course. Adel Taarabt ended his self imposed international exile with an impressive 70 minute show in Morocco’s 1-0 win against Niger.

Loan Watch

Gary Borrowdale’s first start for Carlisle United almost turned into a disaster as a week of dramatic come backs almost took a dramatic turn on Tuesday evening. Borrowdale’s loan to Brunton park was only confirmed yesterday morning but the left back started for Carlisle last night as they travelled to Huddersfield for the second leg of the northern final in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy. Carlisle led 4-0 from the first leg but eight minutes from time were clinging on for dear life after shipping three goals. They did eventually win through to the Wembley final which Borrowdale will be in contention to play in.

Manager Greg Abbott said: “We battered them at our place, but tonight we got a bit more of that treatment. Huddersfield threw the ball forward, put our back four under massive pressure, they didn't play great football but did what they had to do which was get up a head of steam. We did get a bullying at times, but go through their team, look at the quality they've got in their team. We've had a massive amount of determination, and that is what has got us through."

Carlisle are captained by our former loanee Frankie Simek who added: “It's going to be an unbelievable day out. Obviously quite a few of the lads were there last year, and it wasn't such a good day, hopefully we can put that one right. I have got a lot of people coming over from America, so I should have a good fan-base there. The fans were brilliant tonight, and the support were loud throughout the game, from the warm-up to the final whistle."

Former R’s

Danny Fitzsimons, brought into the QPR youth set up from Millwall in the summer but released at Christmas, has signed for Yeovil Town on a short term contract until the end of the season. The Republic of Ireland youth international joins current QPR youngster Max Ehmer who is currently enjoying a successful loan spell at Huish Park.

Championship Shorts

- Newcastle United’s solution to selling Andy Carroll with no time to buy a replacement is a move for 34-year-old Finnish striker Shefki Kuqi who has just been released by Swansea.

- Leeds have signed Aston Villa right back Eric Lichaj on a one month loan deal. The 19 year old recently made his debut for the USA and spent time on loan at Lincoln and Orient last season.

- Preston have come to a bizarre arrangement with Premiership side Everton over their goalkeeping situation. North End have agreed a deal to take the Toffee’s Iain Turner on a three month loan, but in return will allow their current first choice stopper Andy Lonergan to spent two days a week training with David Moyes’ men. Your guess is as good as mine.

- Doncaster have tied captain and Welsh international Brian Stock down to a new two and a half year contract.

- Middlesbrough defender Andy Taylor has praised the impact of new manager Tony Mowbray saying: “I probably felt I needed to leave Middlesbrough. But with the new manager, the new set-up, I'm really enjoying it, and it's a good place to be again."

Parish Noticeboard

As per usual a whole raft of closures on the rail network are set to affect QPR fans heading to the game with Nottingham Forest this Sunday. They are, in order of importance to the match:

- There is no Circle or Hammersmith and City Line services at all on Sunday meaning Goldhawk Road, Shepherds Bush Market and Wood Lane stations will be closed and there will be no direct tube service for Forest fans arriving at St Pancras.

- There is no Overground service between Clapham Junction and Willesden Junction serving Shepherds Bush. The service is also suspended between Richmond and Stratford, Gospel Oak and Barking and Sydenham and West Croydon.

- No Metropolitan Line service between Aldgate and Harrow-on-the-Hill.

- No Jubilee Line between West Hampstead and Stanmore.

- No District Line service between Tower Hill and Dagenham East.

I like the last line of the manager's quote - 'to be honest'.Very NW.Also fond of 'to be perfectly honest' and 'really' at the start or finish of a sentence.Fine Yorkshire transparency and a nice change from Routledge's limited 'innit's.
If we get promoted I hope those in charge restore a full competitive reserve team and season.I think we've suffered - well maybe not 'we' but certainly Cook,Rowlands,Buzz,Van Moen and any injured possible first-team squad member - from not having that this season and tried to unsatisfactorily resolve this deficiency through behind-closed-door matches & loans.

I have to say I like Faurlin's attitude, he has been superb for us this season and deserves to play for Argentina despite the other talent they have available. Instead of dreaming about other top clubs coming after him he has buckled down and done what our club needs from him and is clear in his objective to play at the highest level for QPR. I have watched his play develop and any initial thoughts that he was a talented lightweight have been dispelled by his ball winning, retention and passing. I hope he stays fit and that I haven't damned his next important appearance against Forest with well deserved praise.

Agreed Somerset - these are some of the first quotes I've heard from faurlin and he seems thoroughly professional and dedicated.

When you think about what he's achieved coming so far away from home, seeing magilton gate and all that came with his first season and he's knuckled down adapted to the British game and life.

I studied Spanish and chatted with Ledesma when he was here - he didn't want to stop speaking in Spanish. I tried the same with Faurlin and he told me he was here to learn English so wanted to speak English.
