Really, the opposing sides should be able to agree on maybe 80% of things and the remainder would be the battle ground. But no, oppose absolutely every idea the other side has because winning, not the greater good, is everything.
The irony is that voting for old Etonians like Johnson is the ultimate know your place behaviour.
I think nobody likes to consider themselves as working class any more so you see "aspirational" voting. However, if you need to work for 40 years and borrow money to buy your house (assuming you can afford one) then like it or not you are working class. That doesn't change because you are not down a coal mine or digging up roads.
The power is still largely held by a small number of people who could never work another day and would be absolutely fine. And they cannot do that without a decent chunk of the working class vote. It's why the majority of the media operates the way it does.
For me it had become they are not that different from each other rathen than all as bad as each other. Until this government, because as long as I've been on this earth there has never been one as bad. They simply have to go and deserve a massive defeat that will take a long time to recover from. They have treated the public like idiots for too long and got away with it.
As for Corbyn, he did pretty well the first time and the second became all about Brexit with Johnson just repeating the catchphrase and romping home. That turned out well.
Starmer is dull, almost a Labour John Major, but seems reasonably competent. Its probably what the country needs after the absolute circus of the last few years.
The current government is an embarrassment and has been utterly incompetent for years. They simply have to go and the frankly incredible betting odds suggest it will be a deservedly disastrous outcome for them.
Looking on from afar, it really stands out to me these days the attitude around English football. Every time a goal is scored a sizeable chunk of each crowd are only interested in goading opposition fans rather than just enjoying the moment. Throat slitting gestures, offering out from 30 metres away etc., all while making no actual attempt to cross almost non existent barriers. In fact they seem to deliberately frequent the parts of grounds that best allow them to do this. Even the sheer amount of players who do the ear cupping bollocks when they score again reflects this sneering attitude. I assume with the crowds it is pent up anger, misery and frustration in their lives being released by the individuals involved.
The Southampton game last week was a good example. Just reached Wembley and what started as a handful of people going on the pitch turned into thousands, many of whom then couldn't just celebrate but had to go and taunt the away end and try to start something. You've just reached a Wembley final and this is your reaction? What is wrong with these people and why are they so unhappy that they feel the need to do this?
Maybe I've been away too long and it was always like this, but I find it absolutely cringeworthy watching this stuff these days. The fact that it often includes blokes older than me as well as kids under 12 is quite depressing.

On the ticket pricing, they seem to have successfully killed off touting here with a system where you can resell tickets online (have done it myself a couple of times recently for shows I was unable to make) and are only allowed to charge up to 10% above face value. The recent Taylor Swift concerts were a real test of this due to massive demand and it seemed to hold up well. In contrast last time she toured a few years ago tickets were going for huge sums. So in short, it can be done.
Rather like we are seeing in modern English players, we are starting to see younger English managers come through who are more studied in the technical and tactical aspects of the game. Our whole system has gone more this way which has seen us churn out many talented young players in recent years. Long may it continue.
The technical side is where our managers have generally been lacking (with the odd exception like Venables) in the past with our up and at em, pashun attitude. I don't know that our coaching is mature enough yet to compete with the best international coaches but I think we'll get there soon though, you only have to look at how much better our players are now on a technical level and senior coaches will follow.
Southgate has been excellent in building a culture and with his man management. I don't think an England squad has ever been so together. But he's no master tactician as we know. Not his fault. The comment earlier in this thread about what would he have done at Man City vs what Pep has done was a good call. But he should be praised for what he has built/achieved and thanked assuming he moves on.
I look at the development that has turned GB into a powerhouse at the olympics over the last 20 years as very promising. When I moved to Australia they used to laugh at how poor we were, but we've trounced them in the last few games. Football is a harder nut to crack as it is so globally competitive in comparison to any other sport and margins so fine in the biggest games, but we are on the right track.
Indeed it was a weird place. Went there a couple of times with QPR in the 80s. One was a 3-3 draw shortly before the 86 final got cancelled and the other a 2-0 defeat in the 88 season where we were top of the league. Think it was our first defeat.
The graffiti outside the away end (the superbly named cuckoo lane end) stuck in the mind. "Birmingham turn back or die" and "Oxford kick to kill".
Agree, the endless trophy jokes about him are so lazy and boring. The same idiots posting them will be desperate for him to help England to success in the summer.
Great player who stayed loyal to a club for many years, despite that club never being likely to win the top honours due to the billionaire domination of English football throughout his career. If that's something to be sneered at then I don't know what to say.
