More likely to a corrupt government. I can't see much going towards education, food and health care as it's in too much of a mess as it is. The money spent on the World Cup would really have made a difference there.

I'm not sure how the expenditure compares with the income generated but usually there will be some profits made. As you say, whether it benefits those who most need it is debatable. Brazil is one hell of a country. [Post edited 3 Jun 2014 23:01]

It is indeed... Beautiful place in most but full of poverty and corruption it's crazy.

Meanwhile in Brazil on 23:32 - Jun 3 with 1223 views | Bovi | There are poor fcukers starving there, they should never have given it Brazil they need to sort their fcuking problems out 1st They should have given it to somewhere with the infrastructure and the stadia in place.

On that basis they could only ever host it on the moon.

Wales have boycotted the World Cup for years and have vowed not to go to the finals again until Sepp Blatter has gone.
Meanwhile in Brazil on 08:57 - Jun 4 with 913 views | Jonathans_coat | All part of FIFA's Ill thought out policy of hosting world cups in "developing" countries. A noble but fundamentally flawed policy, based on the assumption that hosting world cups generate investment due to improved infrastructure and increased profile. But in reality these tournaments end up more like vanity projects for the corrupt ruling elite. Developing have far more important things to focus on and invest millions in, such as basic sanitation, improving schools and hospitals ect. I wonder if this is one of the factors in UEFA instructing its members to not support Blatter in his attempt to be re-elected as FIFA president again. UEFA stated it was dissatisfied with FIFA's "direction" under his leadership.

Absolutely. Its a flawed process. There are many projects being cancelled in Brazil to ensure the stadiums are completed on time for the World Cup and surrounding infrastructure.
