Basics? He can't even do the bare minimum. When he's not giving people acres of space and all the time in the world to send a ball into the box, he's neglecting to track back or letting opposing attackers stroll right past him (often times with his back turned) completely unmarked.
Look at today's goal. After the throw in he had some sort of a brain malfunction and left Gabriel Jesus completely free. That was his man and he just let him walk right into the 18 and slam it home:

Absolute sh*thouse that was bizarrely defended by many on here while others were chastised. He's had about three decent games this season, judged through the prism of important victories, and every other performance ranges from abject to totally f*cking useless.

Remember what I said an hour earlier during half time about Naughton leaving people in the box completely free and unmarked? Now he did it again. And in the last minutes of the game. A completely free header.

This is absolutely inexcusable. Naughton should not be allowed to play another game in a Swans shirt again. The amount of indifference, carelessness, and and complete disregard he has shown this season is the biggest slap in the face to both his teammates and those who support the Swans. I've been watching football for a long time now and I genuinely cannot recall anyone at any level who's shown as little effort as Naughton has. It's almost as if he wants us to lose. I am really not into slagging players off ,and there is no way i would start calling them some of the names that some posters do ,but,the amount of times i have seen Naughton playing his favourite game of "statues" ,i cant believe that this is not picked up by the various coaching teams over the last couple of years ,and if it is not rectified [ which it has obviously has not ] ,then why on earth is he being picked ?
I admit i have a preference for Rangel ,because of his footballing abilities ,and yes he probably should not be in the matchday squad that often,but to me he is streets ahead of our current right back ,i cant speak for the U23s and if they have someone that can do a job,other posters might have an opinion on that .
And while i can understand the call for the youngsters ,there is a massive gap from what they have been used to
And for what its worth ,i also blame the recruitment policy in not identifying the obvious need to strengthen a critical position ,how ,if its true ,can Huw Jenkins be in a position to have the yay or nay on transfer dealings for a Premiership club is way over my head .
To finish on a high note ,2nd half display was excellent,and Mawson,Fernandez,Cork [yes ,Cork] and in particular Fer, all played really well .
Cant wait till next Sunday ,3 points against the "champs" would do nicely ,and we are more than capable ,,at least PC now has looking like a football team . | | | |
