Labour manifesto - discuss 12:29 - May 16 with 15863 views | Legend83 | It would be funny if it wasn't so scary. - Raping business which will just regressively impact the poor he is supposedly saving - Un-funded intention to nationalise rail and utilities ("oh, we'll just borrow") - Income tax hike on £80k plus earners (conveniently above the wage of an MP) - Ministry of Labour (very Orwellian) - Nationalisation of Royal Mail...how if it is a publicly owned entity? State appropriation?? - Billions for this, that and the other - £46.8bn of taxes raised!

Labour manifesto - discuss on 12:55 - May 16 by Jango | He's got one figure wrong in that article and considering the amount of figures going around in his head on a day like today, is it really that bad? Let's wait to see how the tories do when their manifesto comes out, if anyone's allowed to ask them any questions that is. |
Article? The shadow chancellor doesn't know what the fûcking deficit is? On the day the manifesto is launched? Christ on a fûcking pogo stick...
Labour manifesto - discuss on 15:21 - May 16 with 1822 views | FieryJack | Perch, it's about time you were disabused of the notion that the "vermin" tag for Tories came from someone on here. It came from a famous speech made by your esteemed compatriot, Aneurin Bevan, a speech delivered in Manchester 2 days before he introduced the NHS to this country in 1948. It's a lovely piece of oratory, and it's worth quoting here. "What is Toryism but organised spivvery? No amount of cajolery can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred for the Tory party...so far as I'm concerned they are lower than vermin." Fabulous stuff, Perchy, I'm sure you'll agree. I suggest you print it out, frame it, and hang it above your fireplace. Amazes me that people like you support a party which was implacably opposed to the introduction of the NHS and Welfare State after the war, just as they were opposed to the introduction of the minimum wage in the 1990s. If you're so upset by the "vermin" tag, perhaps us Lefties should adopt the "organised spivs" one instead. But don't worry son, I'm sure that the Spivs will win on June 8, because the Scum newspaper has decided that they will - and they always back the winner, and have done for decades. The Scum effectively stopped the "Welsh Windbag" from being elected PM and I've no doubt they'll effectively prevent Corbyn as well. You couldn't fu**in make it up: Spiv Party elected to power once again with the backing of the Scum newspaper.

Labour manifesto - discuss on 13:57 - May 16 by nantywatcher | Corbyn - the poor man's Trump. Full of meaningless, totally unachievable soundbites that reach his targeted audience. This country needs a viable opposition leader with a first class shadow cabinet to back them up. A million miles away at the moment. |
Nancy..you are spot on there mate. 'Tis a crying shame. I actually quite like some of Corbyn's policies but disagree with others and just wish the man had SOME charisma. He just reminds me of a poor headmaster and as for the senior shadow cabinet....words fail me how poor they are performing at such a critical time. Labour are in for a severe beating and afterwards Corbyn has to be forced out of leadership.

Labour manifesto - discuss on 15:45 - May 16 with 1781 views | Private_Partz | An excellent manifesto offering massive changes from Tory austerity. We now have austerity in another direction where businesses have to compete on a level playing field with Europe and all the ills of this country are not paid for by just the vulnerable. Raping business? There are lots in there to develope businesses as well including a National Bank. There will be borrowing but only infrastructure projects with lasting value. The Tory's have borrowed more than any Government so they should not complain. They will though and be backed to the hilt by the Murdock press.

I have no political beasts of burden . Bevan ...hmm. Despised by many though National health service..? Only one in the world ? How do other countries manage You forget I'm probably older than you and seen the massive lies Labour politicians have spouted over many years .Many years.. Jesus, they closed pits and steelworks too while Tony Benn was in charge of those pretty stamps we used to buy So....vermin.Well it was brought on to this site day Dave Hugh ,questioned by me then repeated only this time proclaiming all ALL who didn't note Labour but Tory were vermin. I'm not one to forget filth like that aimed at good people who are deemed demons by the likes of you. So, one party state.Well Jez loved the Communist ones as did McDinnell so I've every right to comment as I see fit It's democracy. Pity really innit

Policy partly drives corporate behaviour. Increase CT to 26% Increase min wage to £10ph Add an extra 4 bank holidays Ban zero-hours contracts (a buzz word used to bash the Tories but actually introduced by Labour) Increase the strength of Unions All these policies will increase costs to businesses who may: a) pass on the costs in price rises, regressively hurting the lowest-earners; b) increase efficiencies by moving to automation, combine roles, move tax-bases out of the UK, reducing employment and tax take and again impacting those people Labour set out to "save". How is the National Bank going to work in practice? And the Tories can't win either way - they have either borrowed too much or not spend enough on the NHS / Education etc. Health spend as a % of GDP has been higher in the past 5 years than at any time under Labour (apart from 2008 when GDP was skewed low due to the FC) yet they are still pilloried for "killing our NHS".

How can you hate an official party for something they did 69 years ago and 27 years ago. Parties have changed.

It's time for Wales to realise the pits and steel have gone long since . It's happened in the north east where Labour aren't as strong as they once were. It's the future we need to look at for our kids and not saddle them with the yoke of bitter class war we ve all been subjected to in a very introverted ,inward looking country Take the stabilisers of Wales and go for the future and not the tried and failed Communist propaganda

Back on track here the labour manifesto looks decent. 50% for top earners is fair. We were paying 60% under Thatcher. Practically a Marxist. Good old Thatcher

How is it "fair" that those who already pay the most now should pay even more? You realise that those earning between £100k and £125k will be taxed (and NI'd) at 63% due to loss of personal allowance? And without wanting to go over old ground, £80k a year doesn't make you "rich" particularly if you live in the South East.

Labour manifesto - discuss on 17:54 - May 16 with 1652 views | FieryJack | Just goes to show how the middle ground has shifted to the right in this country when people are bleating on about how extremely left wing this Labour Manifesto is - it's not. RIght - but it then completely destroys Labour's spending plans doesn't it? Even better - big bank sees they get hit on numerous levels by a Corbyn prime ministership. They leave for Ireland, Holland, wherever. How will Labour address the jobs lost, lost tax revenue? The problem Labour have always had is they see business as an adversary to be fought. They've no real clue as to how to work with big business. Is there really something morally wrong is a bid company has a deal to pay somewhat less tax than it should if it then as a result provides thousands of jobs? Labour lack any pargmatism...

To put it further into context, under the current Tory system a person earning 5 x the average national wage of £25k will pay about 14 x more tax. The IFS showed Osborne took 23 million people outside of income tax and increased the amount of IT paid by the richest 1% so that 300,000 people in the UK accounted for 1/4 of total income tax take. That is already outrageous.
