Indeed he did along with Obama who said on 16 December 2010 that the United States will start withdrawing U.S. troops from Afghanistan in July 2011. Obama said "we are on track to achieve our goals" in the Afghan war and to "start reducing our forces next July.,. you wouldn't expect any president /prime minister etc to want do anything different unless the initial aim was to conquer . Its not that the yanks have left, its the manner of how they did it .

Trump's (rotten deal according to our defence sec) plan was even quicker. But don't let facts get in the way. Ultimately it's been a (to use a rugby term) a series of hospital passes from the Bush led invasion. He should be facing more flack than either Trump or Biden here.

Trump had a 14 month plan but it was contingent on the Taliban upholding their end or the USA will "go back with a force like no one's ever seen" so what happens next?

Soon we'll be hearing of rapes and murders, women being beaten for daring to do something as evil as try to go to school. It's a shitfest and it's only getting worse.

The countries around Afghanistan aren't going to do anything. All we can do here is wait for the refugees to start arriving.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

I thought the West didn't negotiate with terrorists.

Trump did a deal that was linked to a timescale and conditions. A complete withdrawal would take place by 1.5.21 if the Taliban didn’t kick off etc.The Taliban have caused issues and its likely the terms of the deal were broken which meant Biden could have ripped up Trump’s deal and he could have delayed or even cancelled the withdrawal, however an overwhelming majority of US public opinion was/is firmly in favour of a complete withdrawal of US troops which is what Biden has now done. There is no appetite in the US to be in Afghanistan, last year Senator Rand Paul introduced legislation which would have enshrined a specific date ( it may have be the 1st of June or July 2021) for the withdrawal of all US forces despite Trumps deal but Rand’s move was defeated in the Senate. Meanwhile over the last few days the Republicans have been removing their previous posts and websites publicising and trumpeting Trump’s agreement with the Taliban.

What’s happened in Afghanistan reflects very poorly on “the West” and 20 years of effort has more or less been wiped out in a few days. The way the army capitulated is shocking.

It’s also been claimed the Russians, who were involved in a long conflict in Afghanistan during the 80’s have developed a “ cordial” relationship with the Taliban; unlike most countries who are closing their embassies etc, the Russian embassy is staying open, there are uncorroborated claims the Russians were actually supplying weapons to the Taliban and it wouldn’t come as a surprise to hear the Russians wanted the US out of Central Asia.

I fear dark days lay ahead for the people of Afghanistan.

I think this is another area where people are slowly starting to see what they were warned about.

There are more and more people coming out and now recognising the achievements of the last administration by the day. Everyone was far too wrapped up in the media driven nonsense to try and get Biden through the door.

If the Biden/Kamala ticket isn’t replaced by Republican in the next election I will be absolutely stunned. Regardless of whatever predictable media race division they will stoke up in 2024 (you heard it here first, bookmark it).

Exactly, Biden even ran his campaign on it, https://joebiden.com/americanleadership/ and unlike Trump who promised a structured exit only leaving region by region when each was secure, Bidens mass “leave them to it” exit has resulted in this chaos.

Obviously there are the uneducated on here still happier to blame Trump for Bidens massive feck up, ignoring or more probably not knowing of Bidens history on Afghanistan ,but that’s not surprising is it.
Even in this humanitarian crisis the lefties act like scum in trying to blame someone else for their feck ups.
Biden has reversed and cancelled many of Trumps decisions and policies since getting into office and could have gone about this situation anyway he wanted, he choose the route they took, end of and has said he stands by HIS decision, yes his decision.

Even the democrats want him replaced because of his mental health now, but let’s be honest that’s been Harris’s plan all the time.
