The season after Laudrup under Monk in the cups we lost in the 4th round of the FA and League cups, in the FA Cup we lost to second tier Blackburn Rovers. Actually we lost straight away under Monk the FA Cup and in Europe under Monk after Laudrup went.
Laudrup fought on all fronts which I liked, I want the Swans to compete on all fronts and winning the League Cup was just great for Swansea City.

For me, Laudrup was a great manager for Swans. His first season. getting to 9th place and winning a major trophy, is unrivalled by any other of our top division managers. Sadly, the wheels came off a little bit in the second ( same as Tosh) but we still had the European matches, which was a fantastic experience.

The wheels came off long before the second season.
We got 8 points from our last 11 games in the first season. He had a great honeymoon 6 months - the following 12 is what got him the sack.
Deservedly.

Yep that's why he was a good cup manager.
Sadly he was not a very good league manager and yielded 33 points from his last 35 games and had the second worst league record of any of our managers in modern history. 1.13 points per game, just ahead of Paul Clement's 1.11.

Mmm Fair enough. So if Martin wins our next 14 matches and we get 81 points and either into the play offs or automatics, even though his record over the previous 32 games has been underwhelming, will that make him a great manager ? Or is he judged over the 46 games, much of which has been disappointing?

He would be judged overall, that’s the point.
Laudrup went at 1.13 points per game over his reign, the second worst league record of any manager in modern history.
I am saying the reason he was sacked was for the last 35 games, going at less than a point a game.
After 6 months with Laudrup, we were in a fairly sharp decline. You can’t be a great manager for a 6 month spell, which is why he’s never managed anywhere decent. We were his pinnacle.

Just read above. So if Martin got us promoted ( unlikely I know ) this season but then got us relegated next season, would that make him a great manager for his achievements or a poor manager for getting us relegated ?

Yes judged overall not just league but cups also, Laudrups team beat defending champions Liverpool at Anfield 3-1, they beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge 2-0 on the way to winning League Cup and they won out in Valencia 3-0 the following season out in Europe.

It would depend what happened, what his overall record was.
I don’t think you are a great manager for having a good 6 months. Or a good 3 months if Martin was to get us promoted. You need to consistently do well or consistently achieve things over the course of your tenure.
You can’t be a great manager and have one of the worst league records in quarter of a century. You just can’t.
The cup win was nice, but that’s only 6 rounds, 4 of which against lower league opposition. Good achievement.

Indeed, good cup manager.
Poor league manager, hence overall he has one of the worst records of our managers in modern history.
Overall average manager.

80% now.
So only 20% agree with him. Yet he is right and 80% is wrong. Can't make it up mun Bases it on 1.13 PPG average, yet when it comes to other managers, all factors have to be taken into consideration. Should be the same rule for all surely ?

Thinking about it beating Liverpool at Anfield, Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Man Utd at Old Trafford and Valencia at the Mestalla in cups was a fantastic record by Laudrup.

Thankfully facts aren’t decided by committee, too many ignore their head and give views with their emotions.
It can be 99.999% and a point a game still isn’t great. It really doesn’t matter.
“Others agree” is not reason enough, you will have to explain why 1.13 points per game, being one of the worst records a Swansea manager has had, is “great”. Something most of the 80% would struggle to do… because it isn’t of course.
I’m unmovable I’m afraid.

You have to think about that agreed that Cooper would do well too, as I say facts aren’t decided by committee.
I was right about that too.
Having of the worst league records is not “great” regardless of how many think it is.

So how do rate the manager who achieved 1.45 PPG average in the league, as a league manager ? Same criteria as you used to judge Laudrup?

We beat teams like that under most managers in the premier league.
Paul Clement - Liverpool, Leicester and Everton Carlos Carvalhal - Liverpool and Arsenal Garry Monk - Man Utd (three times), Arsenal (twice) and Leicester
We had a decent Premier League set up.

Depends who it is and what was won over long term situations such as promotions, play offs and consistent cup winning.
I’d need more info.
If that’s Toshack then he had 3 promotions and 3 cups, which is very good as his achievements spanned longer than a short spurt. One is form, the other is proven excellence.
The latter usually go on to better things. The ones who can only produce a short spurt of form don’t tend to go on to better things.

Why ? You judged Laudrup as a poor league manager based on his PPG ? Either you use the same criteria to judge other managers or you have to take onto account Laudrup's first season league finish, his winning a major cup, taking us into Eaurope and his excellent signings. All of which makes him a great manager. You cannot have it both ways

I judged overall, used the same metrics.
Laudrup didn’t have any league achievements. Qualifications via the league would have been taken into consideration for example. Any long term achievements would be taken into consideration.
But all we have is 1.13 points per game in the league an 6 rounds of a cup, 4 against lower league opposition. So he has some good marks for the cup, but ultimately lost his job due to his dire league performance.
He was here for 18 months and was sacked because our form over the last 12 was unacceptable.

Jackett, Molly and Burrows could all be deemed to have good records with us. None went on to achieve remarkably greater things. Just saying
