5 Things About Ipswich 14:28 - Feb 3 with 448 viewsSaintNick

1. It has a quayside and marina, very nice it was too, a pleasant place to have a drink pre match, about a 15 minute walk from the football ground.

2. Ipswich fans seem all very nice people, there wasn't the vindictive nasty chanting we heard at the likes of Forest and United etc recently.

3. Ipswich has got to be one of the easiest grounds to get to by train, the main station is about 5 mins walk from the ground.

4. The away pub is right opposite the station, home fans only and a massive place, albeit the drinks were a bit overpriced.

5. Portman Road is still a bit of an old school ground, the two side stands are fairly old, the stands behind the goal a bit newer, but all seperate stands and not a bowl or semi bowl

1 Very easy ground to get to by train

2 The bus replacement was not too bad

3 How can Ipswich sell Very Restricted view tickets for only £1 less

4 Stewards did not have a clue, put me in the wrong block then didn't know their own row lettering !! So everyone was in the wrong rows

1. The bus replacement was surprisingly efficient and barely added any time to the journey

2. Has to be one of the best aways for pubs/locations, we drank in a couple of absolutely lovely old fashioned pubs not far from the marina and a small brewery that would be great in the summer months

3. Why do our fans sing about going to the championship as if it's something to proud of? Absolutely no pride in our city and celebrating failure, i find it really strange and embarrassing

4. Portman Road is cracking ground, a proper football ground and it's shame there's not more like it left in the country

5. We got very lucky to win, really didn't think we deserved it but for some reason had a feeling even after they equalised we were going to sh*thouse a win. Definitely as a game had the feel of two championship sides.

1) the bus replacement was no where near as bad as we feared , even got to Ipswich earlier then planned.

2) is there a closer league ground to a main line railway station?

3) plenty of pubs in the town centre to enjoy - best to avoid the “away” pub by the station.

4) I’m fairly certain the lower tiers of the 2 end stands are the same as when they were terracing , perhaps just had the terrace reprofiled to put seats in. Only the upper tiers are “new” builds . Even they must be getting on for 25+ years old now .

5) we won !

1. Station Hotel Pub opposite station was ideal. (agree with Nick - prices were a bit punchy, £7.30 for Guinness !)

2. Proximity of ground to station (Norwich is quite good as well).

3. No TV in ground to see replays ? Just score boards

4 Ipswich Station had a Greggs for my coffee on way home !

5 Good seat/view. I was at back in Row R, but did see the ' restricted' view seats, and they were horrendous. Not seen stanchion like that since the West Ham Boleyn Ground days.
