Plus Terry Venables… he was also a very innovative coach, interviews with players of the time rave about his methods. Half the team at Palace were happy to follow him over to Rangers.
Of course players may need an extra motivational push from time to time, but personally I do think that there is a lot to be said for good coaching, whether that comes directly from the manager. ( probably old school these days) or from the coaching staff they appoint.
First point often being make yourself a hard team to beat & move on from there…
They’ve always had a massive sense of entitlement that’s not based in reality. At best they’re a cup team, not won the league since 1962 & rarely seriously competed for it.
Never forgiven them for 1982… murdered them in that replay 🤨
Unfortunately I was at the CBS Arena in August for the nadir & if anyone had told me we would beat them in the return fixture I would’ve thought they were certifiable. The result on Saturday is particularly good for JS who must’ve been shell shocked after that August game but as mentioned in the report promised an instant response for the next game v Charlton & got it. Obviously the season has ups & downs (last week) but to go on & beat Coventry on Saturday (after conceding the 1st goal) with an excellent performance shows huge improvement.
The extra time was almost unbearable but unconfined joy when the final whistle actually went…...Hi Ho 👏🏻
JS will have to wear that grey coat more often.. 😉
In the 2nd half he pulled a really tricky ball down superbly with 1 touch & retained possession. Maybe should have done better with the chances on goal he had & marking for their goal but didn’t hide at all for a youngster.
Well it certainly wasn’t pretty, but how many times have we seen Rangers lose games like that? To come away with a point from the original home of Pullis sh*thousery has to give some extra satisfaction particularly with so many injuries.
As others have already stated a stand out performance again from Dunne with Cook not far behind. Not so good from the more advanced players with only Madsen seemingly able to pass to a teammate.
Certainly better than away games at Watford, Coventry, Derby & Norwich, so a pragmatic point I think.
