Look out for former QPR player Fred Pentland's hat in the Bilbao museum. Fred was revered for his time as manager at Athletic Club during which time they won both La Liga and the Copa Del Rey. Fred was an integral part of our 1907-08 Southern League Champions team and also played in the first Charity Shield match v Manchester United. |

My first season supporting the Rs I can recall the bitter disappointment of being knocked out of the FA cup in the 6th round by Leicester City at Loftus Road. The matchday programme shows us as 4th in the league and we certainly went into the game as favourites. An unknown Leicester youngster Joe Waters scored both goals to defeat us 0.2. (Strangely enough he was the topic of a recent conversation in the Crown and Sceptre - although he was consistently referred to as Joe "Effing" Walters by all us older chaps who remembered him) Leicester were a good team in those days with regular England goalkeeper Peter Shilton and future Internationals Frank Worthington, Keith Weller and Steve Whitworth in their ranks. Leicester went on to lose in the semi final to Shankly's Liverpool team after a replay. The replay date clashed with the Portugal v England friendly in Lisbon (No international breaks then kids!) Consequently, with no Liverpool or Leicester players available for selection, Sir Alf Ramsey opted to give both Phil Parkes and Stan Bowles their England debuts. A small consolation for the 10 year old me.... [Post edited 20 Nov 12:29]

Let's hope a random passing flock of seagulls don't have a semi convincing power point presentation then.... [Post edited 10 Nov 17:41]

This has been my concern for a couple of months now. The Nourry appointment looks more bizarre with each passing defeat. The fact that the club awarded a contract to his consultancy in the first place was crazy enough. A two man band headed up by a man child barely old enough to shave. Then to appoint him to fill both the CEO and Director of Football rolls......really? The rumour mill suggests it was as a result of a very convincing presentation to the owners. (Sound familiar) Surely the owners can't be that gullible........🤔 |

A truly great player in a wonderful team. That 1974 Holland team was a thing of wonder to the 10 year old me. Rest easy Johan ☹️ |

A very even first 45 minutes and I thought we were a little unlucky to go in 1.0 down at the break. Not only was the starting eleven very inexperienced, but we only had 3 subs on the bench, one of which was goalkeeper Cant. A hot day and lack of cover certainly cost us in the 2nd half. Alfie Lloyd, just returning from injury, played about 60 minutes. His replacement Hamzad Kargbo was correctly given a straight red card for a reckless kick out at a Burnley player. Playing the final 15 to 20 minutes with only 10 men certainly didn't help us. I was impressed with keeper Matteo Salaman along with Rafferty Pedder and Steven Bala. Credit also to other substitute Alfie Tuck who added some much needed physicality to our midfield. 3.0 possibly flattered Burnley a little, but despite us creating several openings their keeper was rarely troubled. |

That's not correct. Laing O Rourke are the main contractors for Everton. [Post edited 18 Aug 2023 10:08]

I'm not 100% certain but this does look like one of the QPR staff (he was definately called Ben) that i spoke to after an U18 game at Crewe's academy late last season (The morning of Burnley away). When I asked who he was and he told me he was "just helping out" [Post edited 3 Jul 2023 16:06]

I had high hopes for Cole when I saw him play for England U20's back in 2015. I was initially disappointed that we sold him to Barnsley shortly afterwards. I then witnessed his performance for St Mirren in a 4.1 thrashing at Hearts in the SPL barely 3 years later. Not only did he look woefully out of his depth but his body language was awful. A rare piece of good footballing business by the club when we moved him on. |

March 1993 we had returned from a holiday in Sri Lanka. We had taken loads of photographs, which in those pre-digital times needed developing. I can recall using the yellow pages and phoning several places who could provide a one hour developing service. The two best options were Boots in Warrington Town centre and an out of town Asda. I chose to drive the extra two or three miles to the Asda. It was marginally cheaper and I knew that whilst waiting I could get a full English breakfast there. We dropped our photos at the booth and headed to the cafe. As we were tucking into an eagerly awaited fry up the IRA detonated a bomb in Warrington town centre. Two youngsters were killed and countless others seriously injured. The bomb was planted in a waste bin outside the Boots store. It still chills me to recall this story, but I do chuckle at people who say a full fry up is bad for my health. |

Four years ago about six or seven of us travelled there to watch Seb Polter's Union Berlin play Blau Weiss Linz the day after our friendly against Austria Vienna. The game wasn't played in the main stadium (which has since been rebuilt) but on the training pitch at the side. I can't find any other 'stadium' with that name - so I'm at a loss as to possible locations for our game. Two of us have opted for a trip to Steyr instead. |

Dave Thomas is definitely looking for old copies of AKUTRs. If anyone has AKUTR's issues 232, 235 or 239 from the 2008-09 season then please DM me. They are the only one's I am missing. |

"Also as a Welshman does anyone know anything about the young Alfie Tuck?" I've seen Alfie play three or four times this season for the U18s. He is a very effective Sam Field type midfielder within his age group. Combative and with an eye for a pass. To progress he will need to develop physically - as he is quite slight in stature currently. The last game I saw him play was Crewe U18s away on the morning of the Burnley game and he was watched by a Welsh FA scout who was asking how he had being doing recently. Hopefully he will continue to develop. |
