Saints are not alone in squandering money on transfers, although probably worse than most.

Ipswich have made some signings that haven't delivered (Other than Delap), many of their signings have been duds.or bench warmers e.g. Szmodics, Jack Clarke, Kalvin Philips and Muric (who makes McCarthy look world class). I also recall some on here suggesting Ipswich got ahead of Saints, and we should have signed these !

Other crap signings that cost a fortune, include; Fullkrug, Nketiah, Dewsbury-Hall, Sander Berge.

Looks like we have gone back to the old days of just viewing an edited DVD, and making a decision on whether to sign a player.

I'll ignore all the Man U signings, as we will be here for ages.

Yep. Agree on Fernandes. He's a talent that will be missed next year. If he goes, I wish him well. He is one player that gives 100%.

Other than Ramsdale, I am struggling to find any recent signing that has held down a regular place in the first 11. This is a sad indictment of our transfer dealings.

As for Smallbone, nice lad and all that, but he is just not good enough at this level (or championship) and would probably be best for all if he left in the summer.

If I recall, there were many on here disappointed we didn't snap up Van Nistelrooy ahead of Leicester !

So, the World Cup in Saudi Arabia then...
at 09:46 14 Feb 2025

Infantino is no better than Blatter. FIFA has not cleaned up its act since he came into power, and many of the reforms he promised are now being reversed to help him and many FIFA cronies.

Credit to Australia for pulling out of the (corrupt) World Cup bidding process.

As for World Cup being held in Saudi, there is not a chance that I would consider going to Saudi.

I would like to see European countries pull out of the World Cup in Saudi. It would send a message to FIFA that it still needs to clean up and stop pandering to the likes of Qatar, Saudi and Russia.

I worked with a guy that had been to the last 5 world cups, and even he is having doubts about the Saudi one. When he did Qatar, he flew in/out to the games from Dubai.

European matches and ticket advice please.
at 15:55 11 Feb 2025

Thanks for feedback. Ironically I have been in Madrid, Seville and Amsterdam recently, and could have got tickets, but couldn't go. Sods law if I just turned up and wanted a ticket I wouldn't be able to get one !

I am looking at ticket only (not a package) from a tried/tested ticket agency.

www.livefootballtickets.com has a some top grounds at reasonable price, but again, no idea if they are reliable.

I will look at individual clubs as suggested.

European matches and ticket advice please.
at 15:24 11 Feb 2025

A few of us are looking for a weekend of beer and match at one the big European sides. Has anyone experience of this and arranged tickets in advance ? If so, how did you obtain tickets. I can see a number of sites advertising games, but have no idea how reputable they are.

Would welcome any advice or suggestions.

Juric
at 07:38 10 Feb 2025

If we still had something to play for, I would understand resting some off the players, but we don't.

This was an opportunity to play the best 11 to get them playing how Juric wants, and put in solid performance and structure, rather than 11 misfits looking all over the place.

As for next year, it will be a struggle. One positive, is that we don't have to worry about any players being poached or seeking a move. Other than. Fernandes and Ramsdale, they can all go and we start again. (assuming we keep funds to re-invest from sales and it doesn't go to Goztepe )

Burnley and yesterday
at 07:28 10 Feb 2025

It's not the Southampton way for defenders to be brave.

Our preference is for defenders to put their hands behind their back, shut their eyes and turn their back towards the striker. Bednarek and Stephens are masters of this.

Spare tickets for Burnley game
at 17:51 9 Feb 2025

Darth, if you got rid of those tickets, I am guessing you must be feeling really bad for putting 2 people through that game on Saturday. In hindsight the decent thing would have been to take the hit and spare 2 people the pain.

As it stands, Is there any more point in Southampton F C being a football club ?

Which manager, with Premier League experience, that was available and willing to come to Saints, should we have got ?

Armstrong worked hard for Saints and was a proven scorer in Championship, but he has proven he is just not good enough for Premiership. I am sure he will score many more for WBA and will be useful for us next year.

As for Wellington, I think he is an upgrade on Sugawara, Bree or Manning. All who have been very average and error prone.

None of us are happy how this season has panned out, but this suggestion (if you are serious) is absurd.

Juric calls Downes unprofessional live on air
at 07:34 9 Feb 2025

The jury is still out for me on Juric.

What we do know is that Downes has not performed this season and has been poor. without knowing exactly what has gone on between Juric and Downes, he probably had a few home truths and didn't like it, or his agent is pulling the strings ?

If Downes is angling for a move, he needs to improve. There will not be a queue of clubs chasing him at this rate.

Totally agree. Why waste money on panic buys at inflated prices at this stage. Similarly, players on offer are only those that are not performing or where clubs see an opportunity to out.

5 Things About Ipswich
at 17:59 3 Feb 2025

1. Station Hotel Pub opposite station was ideal. (agree with Nick - prices were a bit punchy, £7.30 for Guinness !)

2. Proximity of ground to station (Norwich is quite good as well).

3. No TV in ground to see replays ? Just score boards

4 Ipswich Station had a Greggs for my coffee on way home !

5 Good seat/view. I was at back in Row R, but did see the ' restricted' view seats, and they were horrendous. Not seen stanchion like that since the West Ham Boleyn Ground days.

Southampton FC Payroll 2024-2025
at 15:54 3 Feb 2025

You can't attribute our crap defending and relegation plight on Ramsdale. Without him it would have been worse.

He will certainly have a release clause in his contract. It would be good if he stayed, but can't see it. I wouldn't blame him if he moved on. The owners, will also probably see this as an opportunity to cut wage bill, knowing we have 3 quality keepers in reserve

Great finish and effort by Tall Pall at the end, but in the last 15 mins he looked absolutely knackered and was chasing shadows. His aerial threat was limited.

Wellington had a good debut. He looks a big upgrade on Manning and has pace.

I really can't understand what is going on with Bella-Kotchap ? Today was ideal for him to come instead of Stephens. It just doesn't make sense.

Great support today, and hats off to the guy I spoke to in Station Hotel Pub who had travelled from Middlesbrough !

Not sure "Gingers" is politically correct ? Obviously not done any diversity and inclusion learning ?

How about Jaffas, Hobnob or Ginger Nuts ?
