I don't dispute that, GH, and I've had a chat with him about various issues and found him at least appearing to listen. I just mean that you can imagine him laying down the law in meetings, losing his rag and then being somewhat prickly and defensive when blame is thrown back at him. There was one great example on the official channel a couple of years or so back, when he bit on some criticism that Paul Morrison raised with him over the assertion that not enough creativity was being put into directives to maximise revenue through other sources than player sales, and he said something along the lines of "Well that's not going to change unless the media team suddenly tell me that they're going to contribute £700k of profit to the bottom line" in a somewhat over the top aggressive way that was a clear over-reaction to the question raised. |

I'll see your Carpenters and ABBA and raise you the Sugababes. Brilliant touch tight harmonies and a top-notch songwriting team, plus Mutya's solo stuff is worth checking out just to hear that soulful voice given free unfettered reign. Not sure how many 60+ ex-Mods would openly admit to this predilection, but I know I'm amongst friends here.. |

Hoos has always had the air of an arrogant tosser, who's keen to point the finger of blame at others, even when we've been doing badly; just seems to be part of his genetic make-up. At least he's come out and said a public "Well done" to everyone. |

I think you'll find you did... Its OK - embrace it as a sign that you might actually be part human after all.. |

Having said that, Dear Mr. Elbow, I'm pleased to see you finally admitting publicly that you do have some, so maybe there's hope for you after all.. |

Not true. We just tend to have a tad more emotional intelligence and self-awareness.. [Post edited 21 Feb 9:21]

Venkys wanted to stop Eustace flying the coop, but they were too chicken to broach the topic. |

I think that's actually a really classy and respectful tribute from someone who isn't always renowned for such things. |

That's actually not a bad shout at all, as he was playing for u at RB in the same team as Osayi-Samuel and Chair on the last day of whatever season it was that we beat Birmingham 3-1 at home. That was billed before hand as a game where we were going to be giving our shiny new young toys a run-out. That was an Olly game, if I'm not mistaken, so he clearly had built up a relationship with him. Swindon's comparatively just down the road from us, so theoretically there should be no reason why Ossie would have to uproot his young family to go and play down there. |

Sorry for the delayed acknowledgement, Mr Elbow, I've been tied up with non-Rangers matters for most of this past week. However, I am proud to award you 10/10 for the correct answer |

Having called you out on a few occasions where you have been somewhat on the OTT side, I feel we should also give you credit when you've clearly made a concerted effort to be a little more balanced and reasonable and less ranty. I've certainly noticed a positive change in you tone in general over the last couple of weeks or so, and hope it continues. |

I thought the welcome interview that Cambridge put on their official website at the start of the season looked really quite bizarre. Richards looked like his somewhat spaced out overfed twin, with a mop-top haircut that looked like his Mum had cut his hair using a bowl as a guide. When he talked, he reminded me of Frances Farmer after her famed lobotomy. Something is clearly seriously amiss with this young man, and a happy ending (in any or all senses) seems somewhat unlikely.. |

And how good does it feel to have a choice for the first time in God alone knows how many years? I think some people on here need to remind themselves of exactly how far we've come over the last year in particular. |

Looking up. Momentum is a big thing in football (as it is in all walks of life for that matter) and we have plenty of that. We're now top of the "last 10 games" form table - even above the self-appointed Champions of Europe - and our record against the teams currently above us so far this season is actually pretty decent. We have options from the bench, and a recognisable style of play that's working. What's not to love? |

This is one of those games that you can easily make a case for any result you like. Hull have clearly recruited decently, but probably haven't yet found a way to gel fully. Selles did a decent job on us at Reading in pre-season, and will no doubt have a clear vision on how he wants his team to set up and play, even if not everyone's been able to fully take it on board yet. We on the other hand are purring nicely like a well-oiled engine, and have the luxury of having been able to work on tightening up the odd bit of scrappy play here and there (not that there's much left to tidy up now judging from the last couple of league performances) without the fear of the world suddenly ending if we drop a point here and there. I think this at least sets up an eminently watchable game - one of those "good advertisement for the Championship" kind of affairs. |

Of all the many posters on here who I've had the pleasure of interacting with over the years, I feel I can quite confidently say that I have probably the clearest insight into your personality, along with the ever rational and truly diamond geezer Mr. Brian McCarthy. I'm not sure you're as mysterious and hard to nail down as you like to portray yourself, Mr. Elbow.. (I say this in love ) |

The Second Coming of Smythy is one of the stories of the season for me. We've got some serious ammo from coming from this little fella now. Really heartwarming, given how much he clearly wants to succeed here, and shows that a little patience and faith goes a long way. |

Cheers, Bri - yes, almost back to full working capacity, but there were a few scary moments between late Friday and late Saturday pm. |

I've kept my powder dry on this until I'd properly digested my own thoughts and balanced them against what everyone else has been saying, including mart's brilliantly written post. If this had been last season, Denham, I would have agreed 100% with you and everyone else on your side of the debate - no question. However, I was very ill with a horrendous respiratory viral infection all weekend which nearly had me hospitalised, and my one friend whilst I navigated my way through this medical minefield was 5Live's coverage of the Third Round. The Tamworth v Tottenham tie in particular was an absolute joy to listen to - all the old cup cliches were there in abundance, and were dutifully milked by the BBC, but the thing that I kept coming back to was actually how strong the majority of sides put out by their respective managers were: Newcastle, Liverpool, Bournemouth, Man Utd, Arsenal: it felt like something of a genuine rebirth, and fanned by the BBC's extensive coverage of it. No doubt about it - we've dropped a substantial bollard this time around, especially seeing who we would have got next round. Putting up a gallant fight against Man Ure in a 5th round cup tie at leaky Old Trafford AND finishing beautifully cuddled up in the bosom of Clive's predicted 13th place in the league this season is something I think the majority of us would have happily accepted. Now we've got half the fanbase unnecessarily upset and irritated, lost out on a shedload of cash and positive exposure AND we're no closer to guaranteeing the mid-table finish despite the sacrifice. |
