1973/74 Season
at 11:50 20 Nov 2024

I remember the season well - our first back in the 1st division under Gordon Jago.

Away at West Ham stands out. We had already played 6 or 7 games and played well but without winning including 0-0 at home to West Ham on a week night where we had 3 goals disallowed. After a Saturday 3-3 draw v Stoke we then went to Upton Park for the return fixture.

Remember in our only previous season in Division 1, we had never won away from home and never beaten a London club so a win at West Ham was huge. We tore them apart in the first half, Don Givens scoring two typically clinical goals , running through on the left side. In the second half they got a goal back but Rob Abbott , up from defence for a corner got the third . After that we were fairly comfortable despite a late 2nd goal for WHU.

As a teenager I can remember being impressed/surprised with the sound the QPR fans made throughout. A great night.

I don't think it is too much to ask for three Preston players being substituted for (relatively) minor injuries that will rule them out for Saturday, the last injury being caused by a foul which results in a mass punch up and one player from each side being sent off.
Oh yes, and a tyre puncture on the M1 on the way home.

Not only Anderson. For the last couple of games Hayden has made Dozzell look adventurous - every time he gets the ball it’s straight back to Cook or JCS.

Our own press has been half hearted, we are standing off them too much. I can see Smyth replacing Willock too bring in some more energy.

I don’t think that we have seen the best of Anderson yet. If he stays next year, he could go on to be better than Faulin.

Its already our song, written by a QPR fan and its brilliant!

To maximise the sell on amount, we want him selected to start for England first and then sold to Spurs / Man City a week later.

A Tale of Two Football Clubs

Quite a few years ago in the Ellerslie Road concourse they had people serving beer from containers on their backs. I thought this was a good idea as it reduced the queues at the bars for people wanting food. No idea why it was stopped.
Given that we still have no ‘Head of Operations’ recruited and our boy CEO will have enough on his hands covering for the lack of DOF , don’t expect any improvement in the catering in the near future. So much for the importance of the ‘match day experience’.

Paal - Why?
at 18:05 1 Jan 2024

He took every f’ing corner and every free kick. Not once did he deliver the ball with pace into a danger area. Every free kick was floated in - not a single attempt to vary the delivery or try something different.
Why can’t Marti see that it is not working? It is the same every game.

Why do we let Paal and Chair take them all? The same with free kicks. Dozzell or Willock would be a great improvement.

New CEO before the end of the year?
at 13:29 2 Nov 2023

It doesn’t make sense to me. Hoos is currently a full time employee as CEO with responsibility for running the club. If the Board/investors decide to appoint a new CEO, why would they want to keep paying Hoos to be a (part time?) non-exec chairman. If they are unhappy with him carrying on as CEO , then why keep him as chairman?
From his perspective, why would he be happy with just a non-exec position? It seems much more likely that he is just an acting as chairman on a temporary basis until the Board decide on a new chairman.

Also was the first goal offside - it looked like it at the time but I haven’t seen a replay since.

Away v Home
at 18:51 2 Sep 2023

At home we are under pressure to try to dominate the game- which doesn’t suit our style or players. We get nervous, over-commit going forward and leave too much space between midfield and defence. Away from home, we can concentrate on the quick break and falling back into a back 5 as soon as we lose possession.
An early goal at home would help a lot.

What has happened to Willock? Gave the ball away very time he had it from the moment he came on.

In Your Eyes (Athens)- one of the great live recordings. I was lucky enough to see PG together with Bruce and Sting and Tracy Chapman in Amnesty International concert at Wembley. He was superb.
