 | Forum Reply | Jimmy Dunne Will he stay or will he go at 11:52 16 Apr 2025
Think he's the heartbeat of the Dressing Room, Young players like Varane etc seem to gravitate towards him as he enjoys their success, Cooks got the CV and badges but does seem a tad miserable, I think Jimmy's personality, desire & will to win, together with his friendship with Field, Varane etc is very important to this team, I hope we value this and make him a good offer, always available, sets the standards & gives his all. |

What was that stat recently Northern quoted about our numbers with & without Field in the team. Being negative about Field and positive about Madsen is very twitter ish. |

Agree he should have been hooked much earlier & agree we should be looking to recover half of our outlay if we can get it and sell in the summer. The Championship is about horses for courses and its clear he's the wrong horse in this league. Wish him well but we won't win many games next season playing like the 2nd half yesterday & at Oxford when you're effectively playing with 10 men. |

We have to agree to disagree, as you're comparing the technical ability of a so-called c£3m creative Midfielder with 3 defenders, a defensive midfielder, a League 1 winger and a 3rd choice C/F. Even Varane is an unfair comparison given his all-round game but I reckon it will be interesting to compare the sell-on value of Madsen & Varane come their next moves. I've seen Madsen hiding at Luton (A) & Oxford (A) and Northern mentioned the same at Stoke (A), Walking around playing the occasionally nice side 15 yard side-footed pass is not what you need in the Championship, otherwise Andre Dozzell would be much sought after. I've never ever seen Field hide and Varane does'nt hide per se, he just needs to stay focused and in the game for the full 90 minutes and not lose concentration. |

Agree, good leap & dominant in the air for the not the tallest Centre Half, good positioning, tackling and reading of the game, also not hampered by say Dickie's crucial lack of pace, Steve Clarke was at the game yesterday (as was Kevin Keen, maybe monitoring their West Ham loanee?), think Bristol City have a young player eligible for Scotland but would'nt be surprised if Clarke was their to watch Morrison as would be on his radar after his 4 years at Bayern Munich. |

Agree, that pass & goal was coming for 5 minutes as with no Field we were not pressing the ball and they were playing forwards & sideways till that sublime pass and quick movement from their West Ham loanee opened us up. Wouldn't criticise Morrison as it was a quality pass, in the same way Edwards back pass nearly undone us due to their pacy attacker. |
 | Forum Reply | The Madsen rehabilitation thread at 09:10 13 Apr 2025
Or maybe if he had the courage to show for the ball more these so called technically inferior players would have a passing option? Not sure I can name a player in this team technically inferior to Madsen, maybe Field who compensates by bring so much more to a Championship team. |
 | Forum Reply | The Madsen rehabilitation thread at 18:54 12 Apr 2025
This 100%, similar to Oxford he made us an 11 man team for the first 20-25 minutes and after that disappeared and they dominated his space, putting us on the back foot for the rest of the game. |

Agree Gazza its been 2 seasons now, and Lyndon's 3rd season was disappointing, seemed to be hampered by injuries although he did come into some fitness and form at the end of that season, scoring some key goals, I'd have him back, although many would'nt! |

I rate Varane highly and reckon he's likely to have highest sell on value in our squad if he continues current improvement, Thought he really came to the fore when Field went off injured, which is exactly what we needed, Really took on that extra responsibility in Midfield and had the legs and most importantly the desire to really protect the Back 4, Field edged MOTM for me for his excellent marshalling of the press and was noticeably telling Smyth & Bennie where he wanted them, which never let Oxford build any decent possession, Noticeable when Field went off we lost control of the game for the final half-hour, which is why I think he edges MOTM over Edwards, Morrison and as you say Varane, with mentions for Dunne's assist and Colback's game management. |

Can see potential in Celar but just can't see it in Madsen. Just don't think he's cut out for the physicality of the Championship and just does'nt want it enough. I'm guessing Cifuentes knows this, pointedly praised him after his brief cameo's against Luton & Oxford on the basis we can re-coup at least some of our outlay on him in the close season. |

I reckon it was early in the 2nd Half, he'd had a good rest / fag @ Half Time and thought I've got one more pass in me before I'm going on the missing (joking!) Reckon you're being overly harsh on an 18 year old Bennie playing out of position as the lone striker for his first start in the Championship, similarly Morgan who fatigued as expected having been forced to play so many games back 2 back as Cifuentes obviously did'nt rate Madsen. For me the points we won when Morgan unexpectedly manned up and Madsen did'nt will be our saving this season, especially as we have played without a Centre Forward of any note for most of the season. Reckon we got away with one this season with so many poor teams, Morgan stepping up, the Edwards loan etc. Hope we get lucky again next season. |

Dembele's pass was indeed simple for a professional which is why it was so disappointing Madsen butchered the same simple pass, especially as his key and only attribute is his passing. Madsen's big money failing this season could have contributed significantly to our relegation push were it not for us getting very lucky in signing a development player in Morgan who showed Madsen the courage you need to play in the Championship, the courage to show for the ball. Kevin Gallen noted our inability to win the ball in the air up front all season, which is why when fit Dykes is still 1st choice for Scotland and Birmingham spent some of their £35m transfer budget on him, albeit £15m apparently on their No 1 striker from Premier League Fulham, hence Dykes being rightly benched. Winning the ball in the air upfront in the Championship is a very important part of the game as most teams on our budget need this outlet. You lauded your 2 favourites (Colabck & Paal) whereas I acknowledged 4 worthy MOTM's and am told to look beyond a couple of them? Ahem. |

I thought I read Cifuentes's preferred system was 4-3-3? With Field & Varane we have two wide midfielders with the athleticism & physicality needed in the Championship to play a 3 man midfield. To compliment these two we need a replacement for Colback next season and I hav'nt given up on Chair becoming the next Barry Bannan and playing a free role behind the front 3, whether it be in a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1. I really think Chair could be key to next season as will a mobile target man up front who can hold the ball up and contribute a 1 in 3 or even 1 in 4 goal to games ratio. Celar could be this player if he can adapt to the physicality of the Championship which he began to show signs of doing before being injured. |

Key to the win was the ability of our Big 4 (Edwards, Morrison, Dunne & Field) to resolutely defend long throws & corners for the full 100 minutes, by comparison to their Centre Halves & Goalkeeper who gifted us those first two goals. Even so, Field's injury (rightly MOTM as played a real Captain's role when on the pitch) and the prevarication of our management team almost threw this gifted start away. Dembele's pace and superbly weighted pass to Yang sealed the win which Madsen should have secured in the first half but for a delayed and poor pass to Paal from the exact same position. Madsen getting involved for the first 20 minutes meant we played with 11 men before he clocked off for the night and Colback's short passes did help retain possession in our third of the pitch but the win was ultimately down to their poor defending as acknowledged by Rowett, Field's hard work and a superb display by Edwards & Morrison. |

I've noticed this at home games too, its just mental. Be ready, get your 5 second briefing, get out there running, you'll be warmed up in no time. |

Agree, you've always stuck to this mantra and last night proved the point, As poor as our front 3 were and as good as our back 4 were, our Midfield 3 really stifled Oxford in that 1st Half and we could / should have been 0-3 home & hosed, Different point Northern, but WTF are we doing with our substitutions? Field & Oxford player clash heads, there lads out warming up and straight into the action, our lads go through what seems a 5 minute Health & Safety powerpoint presentation and finally enter the field 5 minutes later, small margins, we need to cut this out, we have all week to prepare + the time the injured players getting treatment, needs sorting. |

With regret, nail hit squarely on the head. Similar to Northern @ Stoke, I decided to watch him closely last night, just doesn't want it enough. |
