How you view our Strikers I think is related to how you view modern day Championship football and there are Posters on this Forum who know more about modern day formations & tactics than I do. Celar I think could come good - similar to 1st season Willock, Celar needs to adjust to physicality of Championship football as is mobile, has a decent touch and can beat a man. Kolli I rate - although not sure if as playing as a 10 in the middle, in effect a 2nd striker. Lloyd I like - and was really impressed with his touch & control in a recent home game when he came on to see the game out; good squad player, time will tell if he can cut it at Championship level. Frey I just don't get - has a decent touch, can lay off a ball, but cannot jump, win headers, run or press, probably the most important criteria for a Championship lone striker as is being able to press for 70+minutes, whereas he was blowing out of his arse after 20 minutes on Saturday, meaning ball-playing Centre Halves like say Morrison just walk through our first line of defence. A mix of Idrissa Sylla (where you turn to your pal and say'did he mean to that') and Devon White (fans favourite not sure why or for how long) I actually think for all his bulk he actually lacks strength (compared to Lloyd) and for his undoubted height the likes of Kolli & Saito out-jump him. I still think Celar could come good next season but most clubs on our budget play with a physical target man and not sure he's that, but if Marti stays, maybe we become the footballing side he wants and are'nt so reliant on a mobile target man to bring the 10's into the game. |

Brilliant Red Card for the team, 90th minute, Dan James who is lightening quick had an almost clear run on Nardi, 2-3 would have been a disaster, Saito did what Gary O'Neil did in the Play Off Final & took one for the team, good lad. |

He manages his running, which he was able to do with his sideman Edwards running his nuts off Sam Field style. |

Yesterday Colback had the experience & know-how but not the youth & legs, Edwards the opposite & they complimented each other perfectly and secured a much needed point, A 2-3 defeat after our 2 great goals could have led to a crisis in confidence at the worse possible time. |

I actually think he's decent on the ground, it's his workmate for me, could be wrong, It's not at Andersen or Madsen levels and like Sinclair Armstrong it could be down to his physiology & body mass, but like Sinclair Armstrong he just gasses out 20 minutes in and after that as much as he may tries, we relying on fits & starts of energy, sometimes he can muster a 15 yard run, other times he can't. Sat in a different part of the ground yesterday so saw the spat with Marti, looked like he was berating his pressing, could be wrong. Either way, without Chair, if Frey starts, holding the ball in the final third could be challenging in these must win games. |

I was following up on another thread where a poster said now is the time to swap Frey out for Dunne, Good first touch, finish with either foot, wins headers, never gives us, Cryuff turns the lot. I'm not there yet, but might be after Stoke away & the gap closing further. |

I thought we were really poor in possession yesterday, and when we didn't have the ball watched Colback & Edwards closely, I thought Colback was good but Edwards was very good, Leeds were cutting inside and looking for that slide rule inside pass and those two were manning the breaches throughout that 2nd Half. Either of those two were worthy MOTM, with a mention for Fox and also Dunne who maybe recklessly tried to score a late winner but was one of the very few who had the courage to put his foot on the ball all game. |

I'd start a mobile footballer up top who actually has the following attributes: Mobility, Frey doesn't Physical Strength, For me Frey is all WWE Wins Back to Goal Headers, Frey doesn't Wins Facing goal Headers, see Dunnes Assists Never gives up, See Marti lose it with Frey yesterday Stats wise, at one point this season, Dunne had the most touches in the opponents box, has scored with his head, left & right foot as we have seen, We have must win games coming up, 10 grafters will see us home, We likely have no Cook, Field or Chair, 3 grafters, We won't get away with yesterday's brilliant rear guard action with 2 men down too often, although Edwards was superb and with Varane returning we should be OK. Plus isnt my man Lyndon (not Jimmy) injured? And it's not too long ago the vocal majority on this board wouldn't have Jimmy Dunne anywhere near the starting XI or our club. |

I thought Freys work rate was poor, I thought Andersens was lamentable. The defensive 6 supported by Smyth & Saito worked their socks off to cover the other 2 who knocked in an occasional jog. Tough games coming up, we need 10 outfield players at it, no way Andersen can start in those games & swapping out Frey for Dunne should be considered, Dunne our most attacking threat with Chairs crosses, most assists?most touches in opposition box?two footed, right foot chips, left foot worldies, sounds ridiculous but we need to hold the ball up the pitch and stop opposition centre Halves stepping up and walking through us. |

I'd disagree on that one Brian thought his workrate & attitude was poor today & saw Marti properly giving it to him at one point which I haven't seen Marti do before. |

Frey outstanding, really? won maybe 1 or 2 headers, 1 decent run maybe, I've seen walking footballers lead the press with more pace, We just cannot hold the ball in the final third and but for a great rear guard action today we'd be 5 defeats on the bounce, Edwards great change today & we're another defeat or two from moving Dunne upfront for me. |

More so, But my main point is Paal from one side, and likely Chair from the other, can hit very good inswinging crosses, just not for some reason, from the corner flag, In the final few minutes at Coventry, on Paal's preferred side, he was standing on the corner spot, with the option to play short to Chair, when it should have been the other way round surely. |
 | Forum Reply | Don't get carried away at 09:52 17 Feb 2025
Paal's cross for Edwards goal was almost undefendable, as was his cross for Kolli's goal a while back, Paal has that Beckham type delivery in his locker but needs to be in the right position, ideally at least 10 yards back from the corner flag / bye line, Which unfortunately brings me back also to those corners in extra time at Coventry the other other night, I'm fairly sure Paal was stood on the ball with Chair 5 yards infield to potentially receive the short corner, Surely this should be the other way round? |
 | Forum Reply | Celar? at 09:55 16 Feb 2025
Although finally seemed to be adapting to physicality of the Championship & very significant improvement in last few games before injury, If our 10s & entire team are scoring we should persevere, as he could come good & Alfie is an ideal man to finish games based on Friday nights excellent 25 minutes. |

We see things differently, I always champion those who put the team first, which was why I was also vocal in backing Dunne on this forum when he was getting scape-goated most weeks, Frey is more Sylla & Washington than Hughill & Wells for me at the moment, I haven't given up on him yet but Lloyds 1st touch & close control was a surprise the other night & other than backing into his defender Celar just has to be able to offer more. |
 | Forum Reply | Squad depth at 17:32 15 Feb 2025
I might be in the minority but I really fail to see what it is he brings that we don't have elsewhere within the squad bar maybe being lucky, Can't jump, wins very few headers, can't press as is just too slow, although for me brings Sylla levels of confusion & who knows what he's going to do next from falling over to swazzing a 30 yarder just pass the post, I get Lloyd is acclimatising to this level as is Celar to the physicality, but I can't think of a single thing Frey brings other than maybe backing into his Centre Half rather than jumping to win the ball, Hope I'm wrong but he's more Sylla than Hughill for me. |
 | Forum Reply | Squad depth at 10:15 15 Feb 2025
I thought Lloyd was excellent when he came on last night, Obviously his primary task was to press and stop their defenders stepping up with the ball which he did excellently, But he also wins headers, lays the ball off well and his 1st touch & control was also excellent last night, Also showed some real skill to beat a couple of defenders too, A way to go, but last night showed real potential. |

I'm going to out contrary myself, I don't think Chair has been playing well but he is being far more effective & creating more goal scoring chances than when he does play well, One to antagonise both sides of the debate, Ps, that clever run for his 2nd & 60 yard track back to cover Paal showed both sides of his game last night, effective at both ends of the pitch if not so dominant in the middle. |
