First session, we were booking way too short.
The whole session - because no one saw Starc pitch the ball up ? Just outside the off stump ?
Then we had the backing away by the Aussie batsmen - one of them was off the pitch when he was finally bowled to a full pitched ball in middle and off.
Jacks didn’t bowl at all today, right ? Not even at lefties. If he did, I missed it and apologise but we can’t carry a bowler if the others are all fecked by the evening session. |

Just about everyone is bowling at the same level bar Starc, who’s been the difference between the two teams.
Not only have we bowled so-so, we look unfit and shot after one day of play in the field. To back that up, we don’t catch well or run anyone out directly very often either. Drop the easy ones and occasionally catch a worldie for da ‘Gram, like Jacks.
They’ve had 11 days since the last test - it’s hardly a 3 game week :-)
It’s the basic stuff - the 7Ps of prior planning & preparation prevent piss poor performance.
Pickle juice is not the answer….that’s what Stokes was allegedly taking today. Save some for Dembele and Frey, Ben ?!? |

Whatever happens, the bowlers need some time to recover. Carse and Stokes are both fecked and Archer is well down on speed. |

I think Stokes and Root understand the significance - not sure about the rest, especially not Brook - and he’s vice captain.
Can only think of one reason to make him VC - just to drop Pope for Bethell at some stage when the inevitable happens.
He’s not learning from the responsibility or offering anything else in return it seems. |

We’ll need to take 3-4 wickets in the next session or they’ll take the game away completely.
Not sure where the wickets are coming from currently, none of the bowlers has much of a plan or any real discipline and the Aussies have just picked up where they left off in the last test.
We may even be batting last in this game if we aren’t careful and I feel for the fans in the stadium.
With 2 or 3 exceptions, it’s a very average team by Australia standards but they are making England look like they have never played at this level in the field.
Regretting the lack of pink ball games/practice, much ? |

Based on the first ten overs today, I would guess that we were at least 100 under par unless Stokes is going to find another miracle spell from somewhere.
Some of the bowling has been shocking to these two openers and the dropped catch was rank. Wasted the new ball. |
