Annoying Americanisms

I live in the States and I have one in the other direction. I hate it when Yanks toast me in a bar by saying 'Cheerio.' instead of 'Cheers.'

St George's Day
at 20:41 23 Apr 2016

I'm in California but I'm getting some roast beef and TRYING to make Yorkshire pudding.
Made doubly better by a good win by the Saints. Only saw the highlights but it looked to be a deserved win even though Vila had little to play for.

Tory "scum"
at 18:47 15 Sep 2015

I'm not sure I agree with you on Miliband, I think he's a naïve pinko theorist who couldn't govern his way out of a paper bag.
However, I completely agree with you on Corbyn, this man and his union commissar buddies are lowlife scum who would sell their mothers, and the rest of the people of Britain, into slavery to advance their agenda. The idea that this terrorist supporting Marxist dirtbag will, as the leader of the opposition, be given the chance to see government security papers and British intelligence reports any amount of which he could and probably will pass on to his terrorist friends, is frankly very, very frightening.

Pompey Draw At Crawley
at 23:58 24 Aug 2015

I see that Pompey drew at Crawley AND Morecambe. Isn't it unusual for their opponents to fail to turn up 2 weeks in a row? And when was the last time that a Fourth Division team scored 3 own goals in a single game?

Outrage over Cameron's language
at 18:01 31 Jul 2015

Oh, I'm not whitewashing the Tories. They've done little to stem the tide, or put in place reasonable policies to address it, since they came to power. But Blair's Labour Party have to shoulder the majority of the blame for opening the floodgates in the first place. Is it reasonable not to expect that ones own citizens and legal residents be the first to receive aid, when necessary, from the government? Should the British taxpayer be put in a position where their money is used to fund those who have not made, or seem not to want to make, any contribution to the society into which they have arrived. Why should there not be a qualifying period for an immigrant before which they do not qualify for benefits? Why should there not be a requirement that, unless an immigrant has obtained employment and become a contributing member of the community within a certain period, they be asked to leave? Should not the government be required and expected to investigate any and all claims for refugee status? But most of all, why should Britain not be allowed to secure its borders from those who have no legal right to pass through them? You come into my house as long as you live by my rules, why should Britain not expect the same?

Why? Identifying those responsible doesn't make the root cause any less correct.

To those who demand that these people be let in, how many? 1, 2, 6, a dozen, 50, 100, 1000, ten thousand, one hundred thousand? Even for those who do want to enter Britain to work, what about those Britons and legal residents whose jobs are then taken away? Britain should look after its own citizens and legal residents before allowing in people most of whom, if we are to believe our eyes and ears as well as what it is they are saying themselves, look to Britain for little more than the housing, benefits and freebies? However, perhaps the UK would not have such an explosive problem now if Harman and her lot had not been so criminally irresponsible when they opened the floodgates during their regime for purely cynical political reasons.

Player Abuse Must Stop
at 19:03 2 Mar 2015

I've been a loyal Saints fan for over 50 years and would no more think about abusing the players than I would my own family. I have faithfully followed the Saints since the old second division days of the 1960s through all of their ups and downs and in my opinion, those throwing abuse are not Saints fans. They are probably least able to understand the game, most likely they are fair-weather fans and Johnny-come-latelys. They are jumping on the bandwagon of the Saints resurgence. They have no loyalty to the team and will bail in an instant if there is any blip in form. They are the 'Rupert Lowes' of the stadium. True Saints fans should try to drown them out on during the games, loudly support the players during the games and urge the team on. The team doesn't need such people, true Saints supporters don't need such people and the city doesn't need such people.

I see that Pompey game tickets are 20 pounds each.........I guess Pompey can't afford to pay each spectator any more that that to come to a game.

I work with a couple of Ukrainian girls here is SF and I keep tripping over my tongue. Gorgeous doesn't begin to describe them.

However, I've also passed through Vancouver for the past 5 years and I've never seen a dog there either. Even the girls at the 7-11s are stunning.

How can Pompey be back winning again? Have the Girl Guides got a junior team together? Or do Pompey have to beat the Brownies team first?

Happy Jack, now that Pompey are in Div 4, I suspect that the issue now will be 'thousands being locked IN at home games'.'

Ticket Office
at 23:05 8 Aug 2012

Me too! I tried to get a ticket online for the Villa game, which is the only home game I'm going to be in England for, but had no success. So I sent them an email 3 weeks ago, no reply, no 'Sorry we have no tickets' not even 'P*** off and stop bothering us'. Are they suddenly too good to talk to mere fans?
