Yes, it was relegation form leading into the Altrincham FA Trophy game and the fans were right to voice their displeasure after the Barnet game. They could see that the squad was under performing and results were poor. The players are a honest bunch they will have known that also. The response since then has been excellent. Boston is a great chance to pick up another win on Tuesday, it will be their second away game in a few days and the early kick off will have given us a bit more chance to rest also. Something else that needs mentioning from yesterday, Oldham pitch is worse than ours to play on. I dont want to hear McNulty citing tiredness and the pitch to excuse performance anymore, the squad is a good one and there's no reason why we can't claim a play off place. Let's talk up our chances and attack the remaining fixtures because there's nothing to fear in this league, both York and FGR are well beatable. If we fall short then so be it but let's not wimp out of contention and start playing the blame game. Some of the teams we are competing against are part time in this league and McNulty has been backed by the Ogdens this season. [Post edited 16 Mar 9:33]

Thanks for that. I hope Bird can shrug off his injury, i was surprised to see him come out for the second half yesterday. Without a player like him up front we don't pose enough threat. He ran through the Latics team at one point during the second half and put a chance on a plate for Mitchell, he half heartedly failed to test the keeper and ballooned the ball over the bar. He never looked like scoring what was a really good chance. He's too laid back and his anticipation is terrible, similar to Rodney. We might have to find another striker for the run in and it might be worth a financial gamble in trying to bring in somebody with a proven track record if possible. A Paddy Madden Jordan Rhodes type player. They turn draws into wins. We have some massive games coming up in the next six weeks and we can't be relying on Mitchell and Henderson to score the goals. We played well yesterday and as pointed out in previous posts on this thread, we are easily good enough to finish in a play off spot. The league table doesn't lie and we are in a very good position now. Boston on Tuesday would be massive if we could beat them, which we should do if we want to be viewed as serious contenders. I hope that McNulty doesnt try to shoe horn EEL into the team by tinkering with the defence. We have the best defensive record in the league so that part of the team is working. Birds injury is a concern, with Rodney out long term we could be short on options again. Bird wasn't match fit when we signed him which Jim pointed out in his interview. Is there a cut off date for signing players this month? [Post edited 16 Mar 6:45]

Two points dropped that today, the best teams put those games to bed and rather than try to hang on they keep their foot on the jugular of the opposition. Substitutions are made to enhance the threat instead of trying to preserve a narrow lead. Having said that I thought today was a proper performance, the whole team turned up for a big game and as a fan i thought they did us proud, very good performances all over the pitch. Bird is O'Grady in disguise, Gilmour did the work of two men, Burger put in a great shift and so did Barlow. Hogan was stand out today though, great performance. Beat Boston on Tuesday and today will be a even better result. Credit to McNulty, performances and results have turned around over the last two weeks, let's keep it up. |

It's a perfect game to persuade family and friends to attend. Perfect also to inundate every school in the Borough with free tickets, not just a few hundred free tickets but give away a couple of thousand for the Willbutts Lane stand and physically put up a poster advertising the game in the schools/ colleges. The club could ask for volunteers to meet at the club on the Monday before the game with their own vehicles and help with the distribution, split the schools into different areas..Spotland, Norden and Bamford. Littleborough, Wardle, Milnrow and Newhey etc. The importance of the FA Trophy can't be underplayed now, the win against Altrincham seems to have given the whole squad a major lift and the players will now be bursting a gut to claim the shirt for a possible Wembley appearance. It's created a lot of excitement around the club and also amongst the fans, i can't be the only one who has already booked a hotel for Wembley? Glass half full and all of that👍 It could also be pivotal in shifting a lot more season tickets in a few months time should we beat Spennymoor. [Post edited 13 Mar 7:32]

Yes, when the manager has cited tiredness as being our enemy I'm very surprised that we didn't strengthen in midfield. East and Gilmour are probably more susceptible than other players when it comes to eventually running low on energy, they always put a big shift in and there is nobody to replace them. You're right about Conlon, he's quality. |

Oldham bullied us all over the pitch a few weeks ago and they'll try to do that again on Saturday. They'll try to stop us playing our pretty football. Everybody knew that we had to stop Fondop , we left him unmarked in front of the goal and gave him a free header. Rank bad defending and it cost us the game. We need to try to keep the ball as far away from our goal as possible on Saturday because Latics adopt the same tactic as Tamworth, they launch free kicks and throw ins into the box at every opportunity. We can out football them though and cause them problems if we play on the front foot rather than trying to manage the game and overplay in our own half of the pitch. [Post edited 12 Mar 19:44]

Good point about Rodney because when he's on his game he's talented, we only see it in fits and starts now though. Birds been a good signing but i think Barlow is just as influential since he came back into the team. He reminds me a little bit of Chris Dagnall with his low centre of gravity and the way he runs with the ball at pace. He's a great link up playing between the midfield and the central striker. Good point, yes we are finally seeing us win games at home. McNultys biggest achievement is the way he has organised us defensively. We have momentum now and we need to take the game to Oldham, if we do that i see us winning. It's about time the team turned up for a local derby and i include the manager in that. It's simple against Oldham, just stop Fondop. I think Hogan needs to keep his head also, we don't need any red cards. |

When you're throwing in displays like we did against Ebsfleet, Oldham and Barnet the criticism is deserved. Some of the displays would send a glass eye to sleep and the criticism is justified. I need to stop listening to McNultys interviews because even last night he was suggesting that the poor run of form we have been on has been down to us not putting the ball in the net but the performances have been decent. The fans aren't daft, some of the performances have been shocking at home, devoid of very little attacking threat. Four wins on the spin doesnt change what happened over the previous couple of months and the fans, even those in the Sandy Lane, had seen enough after the Barnet surrender. Full credit for the response since though, they've been great over the last four home games. [Post edited 12 Mar 8:15]

The implosion of the pitch has seen a upturn in performances and results at the COA. Less overplaying in our own half and a bit more route one and get the ball forward quicker? Our opponents seem to be more fatigued than we do. Criticism of performances and results was justified and we are in the results business. Since the turn of the year we had been in relegation form. Results over the last 10 days stopped the rot and the inclusion of Barlow and Bird in the team have given us a fresh dynamic in the final third. Can we just let the players attack at Oldham and not see them bogged down with tactical nonsense. If we see that then i think the penny will have finally dropped. We've been our own worst enemy in a lot of games this season and over complicated the game. The Ogdens have provided Jim with the tools to claim a play off spot, let's stop looking for excuses to fail (tiredness, pitch, budgets) and let our opponents do the worrying. The squad is relatively fit and healthy and it's a good squad compared to a lot of clubs in this league. McNulty and his style of play divides opinion but the facts are that he is only two wins away from being the first manager in our history to win a meaningful trophy at Wembley. Not even Keith Hill did that. [Post edited 12 Mar 7:49]

Agree with that. We saw the opposite of tiredness yesterday and it's great that McNulty is utilising his squad, i know it's been forced on him in respect of recent injuries but all of a sudden there seems to be a freshness about us. Great things can be achieved over the next couple of months, the squad in effect had a mid winter break so maybe it's the opposition who are succumbing to tiredness now, especially those with smaller squads and part time footballers such as Weadstone. My (our) last experience of pre-match hospitality earlier in the season was pretty poor. I won't regurgitate the reasons why but it did need flagging up at the time. We again booked into hospitality today and the difference was chalk and cheese, it was really good value for money and a excellent afternoon. The tables were properly dressed and created a good first impression. The carvery meal was one of the best I've tasted, very well cooked and hot, everybody on our table thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Great staff also and that includes those behind the bar. We look forward to our next booking on Easter Monday. I also had a chat with the Co- Chairman Simon Gauge and we managed to move on from what has been a very stressful last few years, one that has cost him far more money than me to be fair. We also won 4-1 so it's been a good day. |

Not sure what Tobis personality has to do with McNulty, he would have had the same personality before he came to the club. Criticism of McNulty clearly irks you but prior to Tuesday we have won one league game this year and picked up 7 points from a possible 24..that's relegation form in anybodies book. To just ignore that run of form and not ask questions of the manager wouldnt be right. Of course we've had some wins in the Trophy games but at the moment we will do really well to secure a play off spot. League results since the turn of the year have been poor and even McNulty would do well to flower that fact up. We've had two good wins this week let's continue that and treat the game at Oldham next Saturday as a game that really means something for a change. [Post edited 8 Mar 8:58]

I think Hogan is proving to be a good signing, a no nonsense defender who is strong and wins most of his headers. He also brings loads of experience to the backline which we have missed since EEL picked up his injury. We've beat two top teams over the last few days and not conceded, that should give everybody plenty of confidence after a recent run of poor results in the league. |

Agree regarding Kingdon, he was solid throughout and hardly put a foot wrong. Gateshead neat and tidy but created very little. We deserved the win in the end for our perseverance in what was a classic case of two teams cancelling each other out. |
