I want to like and support all our players who take the field for us. I want to like Paul Smyth. But to be blunt, he just isn't a Championship standard player. His biggest issue is that he doesn't get it strategically or tactically. He must be told throughout training sessions what his exact role is - but he simply can't deliver. Yes, he's quick - but doesn't have lighten pace. His instant control of the ball is good but is then wayward as he advances forward. His crossing of the ball is inconsistent, and that's being kind. He almost always seems to shoot ''high'' and often takes the wrong options. The biggest issue is that with how the game is played today he has a responsibility and remit to get back and pick up the overlapping opposition full back and stop him advancing, crossing etc. He totally fails there. Cook and Dunne spent most of the first half yesterday berating him again (I sit on the Sth Africa Road side) about his positional sense and his late/poor tracking back. He often gets lost in no man's land from the edge of the area and 20 yards up from there. When all are fit and available he will become a bench warmer I think. |

I think you have to give it to Sam Field, and our midfield snapped away at them all night.
BBC Radio Leeds, online, saying that QPR absolutely bullied Leeds across the 90 minutes.
We certainly stepped up the physicality in the team in the second half of the season (no Dozzie there either). |

Gerry was probably the best midfielder in European football for about 3 seasons when we had that team and those players, and he was England captain. I'm not embarrassed to repeat what so many have said - Stan's and Gerry's relationship and togetherness on the pitch was indeed telepathic. Pity that Gerry's back did not hold up, and eventually curtailed his brilliant career. |

Stan put an adrenalin into you that stayed with you for days after you left Loftus Road on match days. Stan's brilliant consistency, game in game out, was outstanding. When did he ever have a bad game? In fact the complete reverse, he always had ever outstanding matches. Phenomenal |

Very difficult to add something original to all the excellent posts about TV. He certainly was a good player, ran a game and created so many opportunities with his wonderful passing and had the ability to chip in with more than his fair share of goals from midfield. As a Manager/Coach he excelled. He certainly was ahead of his time with his systems, tactics and the ability to make decisive changes to correct or alter the course of a match. Always got the best out of his players who loved playing for him - at club and international level. When the likes of Lineker and specifically Gary Neville (never easy to please) say he was the best coach they have ever played under, then that says a lot. We are of course all proud of him at QPR - what he did for our club, and the style of play that we enjoyed (and envy today).
Maybe a strange thing to say - but nearly all the photos of El Tel that we see, reflect that big smile, that huge personality and that wonderful zest for life. Gone but never, ever forgotten. RIP Terry. QPR love you! |

Last time for me was Villa away in 1968. We all cascaded down from the Holt End - the R's had taken it over - onto the pitch. By the time I could now get down from Row E in the South Africa Stand, it would probably be Sunday morning, so I won't ! [Post edited 3 May 2023 11:15]

Juzzie, think that you are right. I don't think pride comes into it - more like, ''why should I put the effort in, if I don't get paid for my endeavors anyway'' Also, if the club is close to regulation now, and your contract is possibly up in June - you might need another club with your agent's help. Need to avoid the injuries between now and end of the season to ensure that that you are ''fit and healthy'' and ready to move on. |

The deadline of this coming Thursday 23rd for the EFL to sanction certain clubs with appropriate points deduction - and to put that into immediate effect, meaning right now - not for next season - will be interesting. Will the EFL have the balls to see it through and dictate those points deductions, or turn a blind-eye to situations involving certain clubs.
Administration (sometimes voluntary) comes with automatic 12 points deduction - and Huddersfield look like swaying to wards that now.
I'm not sure if the EFL will see it through - maybe they will install the points deduction but suspended (even for repeaters) - or coming into force from beginning of next season which gives clubs some breathing room (if only an inevitable delay). I just don't trust the EFL, as they have constantly demonstrated inconsistency in dealing with their own FFP rulings. |

I can only think of one word for Saturday. Trepidation. If Watford find their mojo on Saturday - it could be a hammering (way beyond our usual 1-3 defeats). Going of course but not really looking forward to it. |

Couldn't agree more. The body language from several of them was not good. Communicated somewhat of an arrogance from several. Looks like they got into it in the end - but I do wonder about (some of) them. I mean its as if ...''I'm a Championship footballer,so what is this all about ?'' |

Couldn't agree with you more Hunterhoop. Apart from a couple , we don't look a physical enough side for this aggressive league. Also, as pointed out - where is the gnarl ? The likes of Derry and Hill were fearsome opponents both physically and verbally. A mate of mine (ironically a Sheffield Utd supporter) said that our winning team under Warnock was a ''dirty'' side. I laughed but he said that we were very physical, put the foot in, won all our individual battles and then gave it to Adel to produce his consistent magic. Later we had the likes of Barton (love him or loath him), O'Neil and Dunne (and others) who stood up and relished the physical battle. OK - that's going back a bit but the likes of Amos and Dozzell just do not have the physicality. We are a very quiet side compared to others too. We need to compete better on the physicality aspect and not just on the skill levels. How many of our players are considered to be ''a bit nasty'' by the opposition across the league ? I can think of at least 5 from Sheff Utd last night - if not more. |

Clearly something not right there. Is he still struggling with the injury ? Has his head been turned ? He seems low on energy and lacking confidence. Obviously we simply don't know - but if we are to change our results (and soon) then we need him to fire. Interesting to see if he starts against SheffUtd. I wonder if there is any more illness in the camp. |

.....and then they can't get that right. Goal Line Technology. Poor old Huddersfield. Genuine goal with the ball clearly crossing the line versus Blackpool - - but the technology went astray when the ball entered the Blackpool penalty area apparently (What ??). Referee said that he and his assistants were unsighted and the ''watch buzzer'' did not go off -so no goal. Afterwards everybody acknowledged that it was a goal. The EFL stated that the result will stand.
Not a great weekend fr officials across the EPL ad EFL, and their ''assistants'' in video rooms wherever. |
